Nothing new here, but this shows why I think this complex is closer to the original WTC than anything else being built in the City...

Are these still massing models? Or is there a good chance that these 'twin towers' are what actually get built here? If that's the case, then the phrase "architectural boredom" comes to mind.

The design might still change. It has a while to go especially with platform over the rails. Its not 100% positive as of yet.

I think it's likely that it will. This rendering to me feels a whole lot like a placeholder, similar to that design concept for Hudson Yards from late last decade which depicted everything to the West Side Highway built out with towers of similar heights that were also architecturally similar. And we saw just how much that project's design was modified/perfected.

They are massings, but they are massings based on what was originally to be built. What has changed is the size and the layout of the towers, but basically it will be the same. No surprise spires or anything.

It seriously sounds like he's saying "dick."

On topic, why don't they just raze that ugly brown stump of a building, instead of "renovating" it. It's just to fat and stumpy to be attractive, even with a new glass skin. Considering all the new fancy designs that are going to be rising in this area, it will stand out as something bland and boring.

It has very large floorplates, which make it attractive.

It does, but also consider what's going up across the street. It won't appear as large compared to the massive north tower, which is larger on the lower levels than most people probably think. And that's not including the mall and Coach tower.

Also if you look at the model pic, it appears there is some sort of skylight on the roof.

I really like how in the second pic from the bottom the new West Side as a whole (MW + HY Phases 1&2) makes ESB look like a midpoint between two superscraperclusters(!).

Adding models for the 57th corridor would enhance this, and whatever we start getting for MidTown East all the more.

(I do hope that DeBlasio proves himself worthy of our trust in all matters highrise and supertall BTW.)

De Blasio will have little effect on these towers. Our trust is better placed in the ability to get financing and tenants for all of these towers. That is what will decide ultimately what gets built, and what remains on hold.

Don't expect anything to rise here without a tenant signed. Maybe the residential tower could go up with some financing.

After months and months of building this crane, it looks like they're finally gonna use the dang thing. First piece of the actual platform (that I've seen, at least) being put into position!

Awesome shots j-biz. Keep up the great work I would have a hard time going back to work, as I would just want to watch the process of them adding the sections to the launcher.
