Section 106 review costs money and time, and the Feds might ask for a complete set of drawings and photos to be made of the Dome before it comes down. But there's no way it would hold up a project like that if the big players were all in support.

That being said, I'm faintly glad the state found money to rehab the Superdome in recent years, so we spent only a half a billion dollars of taxpayer money instead of the $2B+ that a new stadium would cost. The Superdome is probably the most iconic and unique stadium in the NFL, but that kind of distinction couldn't even save Yankee Stadium from the allure of free taxpayer money...
The Superdome is an amazing facility I think, but its main saving grace and most attractive feature is its location. No matter how pretty or modern Dallas' stadium is, its still in the middle of nowhere. When your stadium has a drive thru Panda Express across the street I think its an epic fail!

Ha. There is also a Walmart across the street from Jerry's World.

Dallas

While I agree the Superdome is in probably the best location of most stadiums, the Cowboys stadium location does have some advantages. It is a short walking distance from a league baseball stadium and a Six Flags amusement park. In a few more years I imagine the area will be teeming with bars, restaurants, and retail.

That said, I wouldn't trade its location for the Superdome.

Dave & Buster's

It's great to finally see that Dave & Buster's is finally starting to get off the ground! I was hoping at first that they'd be almost completed by now but at least progress is being made and hopefully no more delays!

Well It looks like its still more foundation work.. thought it was steel. The building is moving fairly quickly. These garages are slower during foundation and then shoot up once foundation work is done!

heres pics from today: no steel yet looks like some type of chain wall steel sheeting:

Regardless, things look to be moving quicker now~!

Re: Canopy

It's wonderful to see the transformation taking place on this block, along with the California Building, recently completed Elk Place Apartments, and Orpheum Theatre. For so long this area was a huge eyesore and I suspect that in a year it will be one of the best in the CBD. My only request now is that they spruce up the parking garage between the former Oil and Gas Building and the Rault. That and renovation of the State Palace Theatre would be the icing on the cake.

Also it will be nice to have those vacant lots near the convention center being put back into use. If the CC ever goes forward with their grand plans across the expressway, projects like that will be vital in connecting the areas. By the way, has anyone heard any updates on that project? If I were them I would want to get things rolling asap, before the state and/or city try to take some of their money.

It's a huge project and stare issues are probably slowing them down a bit ... It's a whole new everything that has to be built over there and it really can't be piecemealed.

That Elysian Fields project... woof.

HDLC has their work cut out for them polishing that turd. I wish Sean Cummings could have made it work on that site, his proposal was beautiful and appropriately funky for the Marigny.

I like the density of that Elysian Fields project... but it looks like prison more than upscale apartments.

That project is confusing I agree. Im really surprised to see eskew is the architect on that one. The renderings alone are very amateur. Guess we will see what we end up with. Nice density but not the best looking project.
