Description
This Construction Zone is being requested to provide a safety buffer and unloading location for the construction of a new 19-story hotel structure at the above noted address. The site plan being submitted illustrates the close proximity of the building’s outer envelope to the adjacent sidewalk and commercial alley. The envelope of this structure is comprised of large precast panels (some as large as 10'x40’) and deck-to-deck curtain wall glazing system. This will require the lifting of construction materials over the existing sidewalk and commercial alley areas - places currently occupied by pedestrians.

That New Orleans facility is on some valuable land... doesnt make sense for them to not move production to a cheaper area.

MAGNOLIA BRIDGE REFURBISHMENT PROJECT CURRENTLY OUT TO BID

The construction contract to refurbish the Magnolia Bridge, which crosses Bayou St. John near Cabrini High School, is currently out for public bid and scheduled to open on Sept. 13, 2017.

The project scope of work includes:

Cleaning and painting the superstructure and decking;
Sealing cracks in the sub-structure; and
Replacing decking, beams, and other structural components.
The Magnolia Bridge was one of the first bridges to provide access over Bayou St. John and is often used for weddings and other special events. Actual construction costs won’t be determined until the bid opening but the project is cost shared with the Department of Transportation and Development using Federal funds.

Details of the construction sequencing will be shared when the construction contractor is selected.
