The shift is becoming more obvious with the added floors. Looking good. As always, thanks for the photos, corvairkeith!

I noticed it from South Congress the other day south of East Mary Street. One thing I've only sort of just now noticed is how approachable this thing is. The Austonian isn't really a building you can just walk straight up to and appreciate because Congress is busy, it's surrounded by other buildings and the podium sits it back. The Independent, though, being in a more quiet area of downtown and the way the podium is, is way more approachable pedestrian wise, despite having that odd plaza in front of it with valet parking.

Here's a presumptuous request from an expatriate, now living in CA: would it be possible for one of you regulars who are lucky enough to live in Austin to take photos from the vantage points defined for each of the CVCs? I would love to see what those views are looking like, now that so much of the skyline is filling-in with these new towers.

Sounds like a fun Saturday project, to me. If nobody takes me up on my request, I'll try to do it the next time I'm in town.

This drone pano shows you how some of the buildings are shaping up per the CVC.

What's with the discoloration of some of the glass panels? They're almost turquoise. One full strip on the south facing side and then three strips on the east facing side. Wonder what's up. Don't remember that being evident in the renderings.

Those are spandrel panels. It's where an interior wall hits the exterior.

The spandrel panels* significantly decrease the aesthetic quality of the building.

*never heard this term before -- thank you for the insight.

Thanks IluvATX! Was really bothering me. I've never seen this so blatant before or at the very least, it usually is less one-off and has some sort of pattern. This is really just a few strips throughout the building. Almost looks like a kid coloring in a building, running out of ink, and using a different color blue to fill in the gaps. Like wwimv said, it ruins some of the aesthetic for me. Surprised they didn't work around this.

I'm going to be super double excited when the jenga-style floor shifts start becoming apparent.
