Found some interesting photos. If you scroll through you'll find some renderings and images from what appears to be before they went with the "canyon" design. Obviously not whats going to happen anymore, just cool to see how the project has evolved. Can't tell by some of the images if they were going to do skylights in the canyon? Maybe?

Frontier Airlines is beginning nonstop service between Austin-Salt Lake City on July 7 with two weekly flights. The service will then go to three weekly flights on August 12. Frontier currently flies nonstop from Salt Lake City to Atlanta, Denver, and Las Vegas. Delta Air Lines is the only other airline that flies the AUS-SLC route.

I prefer Allegiant Air. They offer an extra experience at no additional cost. They randomly fill your cabin with smoke, have emergency landings and unexpected cabin depressurization. They aren't boring like those other airlines with all their safety and stuff.

Frontier makes you bring your own folding chair and charges it as carry-on luggage.. Allegiant just makes you stand... I would not be surprised if they found a way to install the handholds that buses and subways have. Sorry FAA 🤷♂️

At least Allegiant won’t suck you out of the airplane at 32,500ft. (See Southwest)

With all seriousness, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, and Frontier are more similar to low-cost European airlines (such as Ryanair, Easyjet and Wizzair) when it comes to culture, fees, and service, and all that stuff. American flyers just aren’t used to that so they bash and criticize something they’re not familiar about. Southwest is the Walmart of the airline industry while Frontier, Spirit, and Allegiant are the dollar stores of the industry.

Southwest is more of a Target, while the rest being Walmart.

Wizzair is actually owned by Indigo Partners, just like Frontier. They did have to reintroduce free carry-on in Europe recently, as even Ryanair includes that in the ticket price.

As a European, I understand what I get with Frontier. What frustrates me is what I get from full service airlines in the US. Economy with Lufthansa means drinks and a sandwich, and ALCOHOL, included. The service offered by United, Delta, and American is far inferior.

We are getting close. Vertical seating will be the next thing.

Maybe only on Elon Musks BFS with 30-45 minute flights would that be acceptable since you would be flying into the upper atmosphere. Even then I doubt it.

My son and I flew to Denver to watch the Rockies play last night. We left yesterday from Concourse A, and this morning we returned to the same gate, but everything had been re-signed as Concourse G. Does anybody know the reason for renaming the A concourse? I assume it's so that the 'A' designation is available in the future when the first portion of the new concourse is opened, but that's still years away...

They might be naming the four wings of the new concourses ABCD, and then the three concourses that will stay will be EFG. I have no idea what they are actually doing but I suspect that would be what it is

I hadn't heard anything but checked the map on the website and sure enough, it is now terminal G. They will be tearing down Terminal D and G (A) when they start phase 2 so no idea why they changed it.

If you cram in 20 % more people that would suck but they honestly look more comfortable to me if given the same amount of space as a seat. I could see an airline selling these as "tall economy". I would prefer that seat and I'm not all that tall.

Probably has to do with changing the mindset of regular SLC travelers. The new west wing will probably be named A gates, and they want people to recognize that A gates are new and on the west side.

I can only imagine how frustrating it could be to be a person who regularly connects through SLC (if they kept the names the same until the new terminal was ready to open) and then suddenly all the gate names changed. Imagine arriving on a C gate, with a short connection at an A gate. Thinking of the old layout because of familiarity you turn and head to the east side where the old A gates were. I'd be pissed to head all the way to the old A gates only only to find them demolished and the new A gates are a mile away on other side of the airport.

Change the names now, get people used to them being the G gates, and there will be less confusion in 2 years when the new A gates open.

Just as a followup on the terminal name change, the Airport Website had the following:

Quote:
Concourse A renamed to Concourse G
Concourse A has been renamed to Concourse G. It’s part of The New SLC Airport Redevelopment Program. When the first phase of The New SLC opens in 2020, the Concourses will be named A and B, so the existing concourses need to be renamed in advance. Coming in September 2018, Concourse B will be renamed Concourse F.

Yes, nice pics. Same guy said it only took a year and a week from first steel to topping out. 2 years to go.
