The topography is what defines Pittsburgh more than anything else.

YES! I always feel weird when I visit flat cities at first. They have a whole different vibe after being used to all the nooks and crannies of the hills.

I'm glad you visited some of the old mill towns that surround the Pittsburgh Metro. With all the hills and valleys in Western PA, you can miss so many gems while traveling on the highway. Especially like the shots of the old architecture and industrial buildings. Lots of people depended on the industry in these little towns to make a living...now people can't leave fast enough. Pittsburgh has become a model for revitalization, although the money/demand for that in places like Brownsville, Donora, Beaver, etc. is hard to come by.
Oh and of course, EXCELLENT photos! You even got my hometown of Johnstown into the mix. Our Incline carries CARS! Haha, there's still some artistic/architectural gems hidden there, but I'm sorry to say I wouldn't do them justice and they are fast falling into disrepair. Keep these photos coming!

Try living in one your whole life. It really starts to suck. Hills are fun, especially if you have a bike. When I went to school in Huntsville back in the day I lived at the top of a big hill. All you had to do was pedal about twice and you could fly down the rest of the hill all the way into the middle of campus.

On my bike, I can easily get to 45-50mph going down some of the hills here in Pittsburgh, especially the one that goes down towards the southside from Mt. Washington, thats like 500' straight down a road. Its awesome.

The Pittsburgh region has so much depth and texture. So many secrets, so much to explore. One of the most intriguing places in America - something this thread has captured most evocatively.

Yes it's one of the most fascinating cities in America and I hope I can find another job that's long term in the region so I don't have to move.

Pittsburgh looks nearly perfect. It's got nice old buildings and modern architecture, plus interesting geography.

Penetrating? You were all over and up in Pittsburgh. A restraining order may be needed.
