My guess is to allow some light into LaSalle-Wacker. You don't want to make that place unrentable.

The garage goes right up to LaSalle Wacker - but the occupied part has a significant separation ( meter or 2 ) between the buildings, this set back will de-emphasize the garage portion and not break up the vertical lines. ( when viewed from the North ).

Update

Another photo of Waterview, this time from more to the west, this will be the widest angle of the building when it is finished, I figured we should get a few pics from this direction on here.

^That is actually curving around the NW corner. And are you sure that the ramp is going to come through the lobby like that? I was by the site today, and it didnt occur to me that the ramp would come through the lobby a la Deloit until you mentioned it...would be pretty cool though, as long as it didnt take away from the lobby height. Also, I think there are going to be stairs going up to the second level, and how would that be possible with the ramp going through the lobby?
