Addition to the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium - (Dalhousie Arts Centre)

I was reading through the Dalhouisie University Masterplan document last evening and found something that I thought was interesting:

(source: http://dalnews.dal.ca/2010/03/19/buildingboom.html )
Quote:
Proposed renovations to the Dalhousie Arts Centre
- Includes an addition on the Seymour Street side of the building for a new performing arts space and to bring the costume studies program back to Studley campus
This addition is also shown on page 12 (of 206) of this pdf document http://campusplan.dal.ca/Files/Report_Sept_2009.pdf - addition labeled ST18 . The Dalhousie Arts Centre (Rebecca Cohn Auditorium) is located at 6101 University Avenue http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Ha...eocode=ADDRESS - the block bordered by Seymour, Henry, Coburg and University Ave.

I am not sure if they are making improvements to the stage area of the Rebecca Cohn or if it will be a completely separate space that will be attached. Does anyone have more information? I am not sure when it will proceed, however it was mentioned as a proposed project in the March 22, 2010 dalnews letter.

Here is the drawing of planned additions from 12 (of 206) of this pdf document http://campusplan.dal.ca/Files/Report_Sept_2009.pdf - addition labeled ST18. Page 13 of this document also shows additions to the Sexton Campus (Engineering and Architecture Campus on Barrington and Spring Garden Road) - that are not shown below.

Wow.. thanks for posting. With DAL and SMU both having very ambitious expansion plans... Halifax's university scene is really looking up.

I always hold out hope that once the new SGR library is built.. DAL will renovate the old one for something.

This may also support of review of the zoning rules for some of the blocks in and around Dalhouse and SMU in terms of densification and infill development. There has been some progress made and the Fenwick reworking will help.

But some more 8 to 10 storey apartment and condo blocks in the south end could add some more places for students to live and bulk up the peninsula density around downtown nicely.
