Why are they using wood?

137 years later- Didn't they learn anything from the fire?

Does it seem strange to anyone else that the window frames/panes in the lower portions of the building are black, and then white in the residential area.

Since the balcony rails, i believe, are black as well this a particularly odd decision imo.

Thanks for the updates, guys. I like the little motor court. Very elegant.

Although I'd love to see Chicago get something like this:

but what isn't elegant about this building? the elysian displays its elegance at every angle... right down to the carved wood dormer frames.

boy howdy.

TUP, exactly what we mean when we say this building - and all of LaGrange's buildings, really - are a terrible missed opportunity. The motor arcade as it's being built is the most obnoxious part of this project in my opinion. It was a huge chance to add something unique to the city, and instead we have something that makes me hide my face as I pass by.

I mean, Pelli is a good architect, but not fabulous - and he was able to pull that off...

The windows on the highrise portion may yet be painted black. There is often a white-ish primer coat laid down first.

I bet most people would.

The Bloomberg building's motor court at least has the appropriate scale. This one is a few stories too short and the lot size isn't big enough to make it anything more than a superfluous appendage. The scale is all wrong.

Hopefully the facade of the building behind blends in well enough to somewhat "fix" this visually.
