Hamilton's Welcome Sign Insignia

Mount Forest has 'High Happy Healthy'...

A fun topic I see more of even on CBC Toronto's news this morning is how we as Hamiltonians are voicing our need for a welcome sign.

What would our insignia or motto be?

Something along the lines of 'Not nearly as sh*t as you think it's gonna be. And, oh yeah, we've got lots of waterfalls, too' would be ideal.

Otherwise, nothing to do with ambition - I'm sick of that.

Actually, I don't think it should say anything. It should just be beautiful and memorable.

Some sort of play on how it's not as terrible as widely believed would be good.

"Let us surprise you." "Thanks for giving us a chance." I'm not entirely joking.

Anyway, the City should save our tax dollars and forget about it. Why put up a welcome sign at, say, the off-ramp to Main Street? All anyone will continue to see are the five lanes of speeding traffic, almost complete absence of trees or landscaping, billboards for ambulance chasers, and now a payday loans place.

Welcome to Hamilton...
  • Using diversity to become stronger than steel.
  • A city within a city
  • Real life city
  • Your arrival to revival
  • Your redezvous with a renaissance
  • A multi-leveled industrious community.
  • Hard as steel, born again medical, a super future.

    Maybe not:
  • Where you can head west, only if you exit east first.
  • A city reborn; medicated by medical.
  • City of Waterfalls although I can't find them

This was debated a few years back. Think it was called a gateway project. No funding available. Think there's even a whole thread about it.

It should be a blue sign that says City of Hamilton, thats all that is needed. No insignia, no motto or slogan.

Maybe like... the logo or the flag or something... but that's it.

Right now most of the signs don't even say "City of", they just say Hamilton so as not to offend the former suburbs, It's time they got over the amalgamation and we move forward.
