The Coulees of Central Washington

These canyons and lakes were carved out by a massive flood at the end of the ice age. They are located in the center of Washington between Grand Coulee Dam and Soap Lake. These were taken on a gloomy but typical November day.

I love the dry sage valleys of Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Nice pictures!

It's not often that gloomy-day photos make me take a deep breath, but, Wow! That opening shot sets the tone, and the rest maintain it.

I think those photos are more powerful with the mist and overcast than they would be with sun and blue skies.

Now, excuse me while I go put on a warm sweater.

Wow, cool pictures. Reminds me of some places in Oregon and Idaho I've been, but even more dramatic, like something from Lord of the Rings.

Very cool. I feel like the interior northwest holds some scenic hidden gems many people are not familiar with. I'm spoiled with California's geographic diversity so when I move to Portland I hope I can find the same in Oregon and Washington.

Lake Missoula floods!

Very nice pics. The Lake Missoula floods have to be one of the most interesting geological phenomena I've ever read about. PBS recently had a really good hour long special about it. Just imagine what it would have looked like standing on one of the high peaks of the Cabinet Gorge Mountains when the ice dam broke.
