The midrise portion has a mixture of about 80 market rate, affordable, and public housing apartments. The tower has ~190 apartments.

The retail component will add another new grocery store to this area - a huge 80k sf Mariano's. I believe the theater part will be run by ArcLight Cinemas, an LA-based chain, and there might be a Dick's Sporting Goods (apparently the first in the city?). I'd expect the rest of the retail space to be filled by the usual suspects you'd see in a decent mall - H&M, Sephora, Puma, etc.

Just a pretty urban compromise for those who want to drive. And, more so at a place like target, driving really makes more sense for many people.

The “infamous hole” on Clark Street is headed for auction

What NBC Chicago referred to as the “infamous hole” at 7070 N Clark St in Rogers Park is apparently headed for auction after languishing in uncertainty for half a dozen years.

The property was listed for sale in 2009 for $3,950,000 as a “partially constructed 5-story 32-unit development project.” The price was reduced to $2,950,000 in March of 2010 and it was taken off the market in April of this year.

I remember visiting Chicago in the early 2000's, parking in the garage across the street and seeing the walls around those ornate gothic arches absolutely caked in graffiti.

Does anyone know what's going on with the Bridgeview Bank tower at Broadway and Lawrence in Uptown? They've taken off chunks of the facade to do what appears like some kind of repair work.

You are correct, they are doing repair work at the Broadway bank to restore the facade.

I feel like they've been working on that bank forever. Hopefully we'll see the same attention to the Uptown Theater sometime in the near future.

I went to Chinatown today (Lao Sze Chuan - delicious!) and I noticed a development called "Windfall Square," I believe. Does anybody know anything about it? The entire billboard was in Chinese, but it was posted on Archer and Wentworth if I remember correctly.

This may or may not be related, but the City is talking about building a larger library for Chinatown on that intersection, and it would not be free-standing from what I understand.

I seem to remember renderings and everyone being very pleased with the design

Here is the rendering of the building planned at the SW corner of Archer/Wentworth that would house a library.

Sterling Bay, which has purchased the 1000 W. Fulton St., Fulton Market Cold Storage warehouse, is close to signing their first tenant. They have also asked the city if they could demolish a few older buildings just to the west of this building so that they can build another commercial building up to 180,000 sq ft.

Also, Google is close to signing a lease at the Merchandise Mart for 500,000 sq ft. I'm not sure how that's possible considering the article also states that the Mart is 97% leased, but maybe some tenants are moving out. Almost all of the Libertyville Motorola Mobility employees will be moved to the site. Google wants the Mart owner to build a roof deck on it.

Google in advanced talks for big Merchandise Mart lease

(Crain's) — The Merchandise Mart has emerged as the likely destination of Google Inc., which is in talks for a lease that could exceed 500,000 square feet and would allow the technology behemoth to put a new stamp on the 82-year-old structure.
...
At Google's request, Vornado would add a roof deck on the 4.2-million-square-foot Merchandise Mart, giving Google employees spectacular views along the Chicago River, the sources say.
Assuming it goes through, its awesome news. The Mart has really come into its own in the past few years.

I was looking at that earlier today and, damn, Google employees will have a great view from that roof deck. Especially if River Pointe and Wolf Point get built... Just surrounded by skyscrapers...

A park at Wolf Point would make the views that much better.
