I mean it's the National Association of Realtors, what do you expect? It's an old school organization that's been around since the 1800's, is the second biggest lobbyist group in DC, and is run by a bunch of old dudes who still wear three piece suits and retired soccer mom's who need something to say they do for a living. Have you ever been in a "Realtor TM's" office before? They love tacky shit like this, curved glass barriers with huge logos on them to stop people from crashing through the glass or giant pieces of brushed aluminium trim. They basically just extracted a conference room from a housing bubble chic Coldwell Banks branch built out in 2005 and plopped it on top of their existing building.

Yup, someone here mentioned seeing equipment on site the other day. Just drove by this morning and saw Revcon drilling away. I also passed a giant red Revcon crane mounted cassion rig on a flatbed headed inbound on the Kennedy this morning, wonder where that's headed?

They are working fast then maybe. I think it was only in the last week or two they got the permit to demo the building on site

The amount of overreacting to this is a little nuts. It's a rooftop amenity addition to an office on Michigan Avenue. Who cares? It will have great views up and down the River and Michigan Ave. You'll hardly even notice it from the street level. Plus, this means that the top of the Wrigley Building will maintain some sightlines for the next decade or longer. Not every development or rendering needs an extreme reaction.

This 100%. Usually I feel like I'm the one whining a bit too much, but really people? It's not that bad and like you said it's on the roof.

Which makes me wonder what happened to the Northbridge addition that is supposed to take up that space behind the NAR building. We haven't heard a peep about it over the last year since those mediocre ho-hum plans were released. Hopefully, they received enough negative reactions that they want back to the drawing board.

Some thoughts as I catch up with the last few pages.

1. 303 E Wacker sits above a fire house (assume it was a similar development deal many moons ago). It really has no impact at all on the office. Doubt you'd even be able to request a discount.

2. Realtor Building was already a bit unfortunate. The rooftop amenity changes nothing. It also doesn't change the redevelopment math even if they are spending $10-15 million on it. If the math works for a 70+ story monster there, we are already talking about buying an entire office building. Downtown land costs probably need to fundamentally change in Chicago for that kind of thing to work. But its certainly possible in ~10 years if there are no empty lots left.

3. Anyone have photos of the CH Robinson building? Maybe this is the wrong thread. Was excited to see that beachhead of North Branch redevelopment finished.

Since Bob Newhart moved out, they just won't leave the poor building alone.

So happy with the pace of G333N. Maybe those two other towers will get going soon to.

Why do the lower floors have windows that are different than the higher floors?

I did not notice any difference in the glass or design of the windows of the Aloft Hotel? Unless you are referring to 600 N Fairbanks on the far left of Harry's pic? In which case the frosted glass on the lower floors conceals a parking garage.

Surprised this wasn't posted yet

Former John Hancock Center is getting a new owner: Sterling Bay

Quote:
By Ryan Ori
e building formerly known as the John Hancock Center is also getting a new owner: Sterling Bay.

The Chicago developer has a more than $300 million deal to buy the office and parking portions of the 100-story skyscraper at 875 N. Michigan Ave., according to people familiar with the deal.

The exact price could not be determined, but it’s believed to be almost $310 million, according to the sources. The deal is for 717 parking spaces on floors four to 12 and about 908,000 square feet of offices on floors 13 to 41.

Not included in the deal are residential condominiums, retail and restaurant space, the 360 Chicago observatory and broadcast antennas atop the tower — all of which have separate owners.

As part of the deal, Sterling Bay will own potentially lucrative naming rights.

Yeah I was referring to the frosted glass, 600 N Fairbanks. I know parking is necessary but that is just ugly in my opinion
