BUT..As anybody familiar with the development scene here in height terrified Boston knows...if it gets built at all they'll break ground in 2020 after all the guys with crummy beards, who wear socks with sandals and can't fathom the idea of a major American city that actually want to construct a building higher than 30 floors have exhausted their grassroots campaigns and lawsuits to stop construction...And of course these faded hippies who have nothing better to do with their time or money than fight these plans will score a major reduction in the size/height of the project resulting in the construction of yet ANOTHER 27-29 floor average, mediocre building...just what Boston needs!!!! I wish these nature loving, tower fearing do gooders would move to Vermont where they belong! and let Boston build!

Developer offers new details on Copley tower

Simon Property Group is moving forward with plans for a 47-story tower at Copley Place that would be Boston’s largest residential building ... the developer is trying to address the building’s impact on the neighborhood by, for example, rotating the tower to make it appear slimmer from the Copley Square side and increasing the size of a glass-encased garden with shops and community space.

There's a couple of proposals in Calgary, Alberta, (one is a dead proposal and the other who knows), that are very similar to Copley Place. This is a nice tower for Boston.

If anyone's curious, the Boston Redevelopment Authority just gave this project the green light last night! No height reductions, no infinite additional public meetings...this is a big deal for Boston. Developers hope to start construction spring 2012.

This was also given approval by the Zoning Board yesterday...it looks like this baby just might be built, as-is...which is an extreme rarity in Boston, especially in Back Bay, and ESPECIALLY when dealing with this kind of height. Great news.

A building that can finally put Boston back on the skyscraper map. I'm holding my breath but somewhat optimistic about this one. I love the winter garden. An all around great addition.

Its about time Boston got a new tower, its been forever, when was the last time a significant highrise was built there? Like the late 90s or earlier?

111 Huntington in 2001 was the most notable of the towers built in the last decade.

In the US maybe, but hardly in the global scheme of things. A 600 footer is really just a midrise today. Nice tower though, Boston needs some dynamic energy from development.

I didn't think this thing would make it. Thank god cause i love the design on it, only if it was a little taller, but its still more than expected.

Yes, it is nice. There are a lack of curvy buildings proposed, and this one fits the bill nicely. Go Boston!
