However, in May, a revised plan was submitted to the city that requested an additional two storeys to be added on each hotel, for a total of 316 units."
To be doing it concurrently is impressive. The fact they asked for 2 extra stories is also impressive. I wonder if it was done through HbD or requires a zoning map amendment to change the post bonus height map?

I believe the Citadel Hotel site is in the "ramparts maximum" area for HbD, along with a big swath around Cogswell.

Looks like they will be using 2 cranes if all 3 buildings are going up at the same time, that crane is way to far to the right to reach the whole development.

I guess that's crane #4 downtown. If two go up before the City Centre Atlantic crane comes down then it will be 5.

If the Nova Centre moves ahead along with some other projects like Clyde Street there could be 6 or 7 active cranes downtown. I think the most I've ever seen at once is about 3.

You are correct - so it sounds like it would just be an amendment to the DP. I'm guessing from the CTV story, it was approved? Either way, this is an impressive piece of redevelopment and I have no doubt that even if Nova Centre doesn't happen this year - when it does, HRM will hit that $1 Billion building permit value (this or next year).

I think it's important to really be impressed at the potential $1 billion construction value, for a region/city the size of HRM. To give you some context - Ottawa in 2010 had a total building permit value of $2 billion, with a population just shy of one million people (estimate). I got that information from this report, which I would say is something HRM should consider publishing as things grow. On the other end, Calgary's 2011 Building permit value was $4.54 Billion, for a city just around 1.1 million. For HRM to hit $1 billion and still be around 420k population - that's impressive. I gives me hope that when the time comes that HRM passes 600,000 people we'll be seeing construction values well over $1 billion and hopefully in the $2-$2.5 billion range.

They are starting to make progress on the tower demolition.

Thank you SekishikiMeikaiHa and kph06 for all the pictures. And thanks to Jstaleness for the drive-by shots (pictures).

Having lived in the apartment buildings across the way for a while - I have to say it I'm a little sad to see it go. But really looking forward to what's coming...

Three more from today. The demolition of the tower has picked up pace. Should be all gone next week:
