There was the incident at The Max (928 Beatty) where somebody went to the top of the stairwell and opened up the standpipes and flooded the entire building.

Yeah, that was different building as mcminsen says. I actually lived in that building for some time after the incident and home insurance was sky high even for a small furnished place. That must have been a really bad leak as I remember there being many signs of repairs in the unit and we were on the 32nd floor where as the incident happened on the 36th floor penthouse.

I remember reading that the idiot was on drugs when it happened and I hope they had to pay direly for the incident.

Mystery woman at Vancouver's Rosewood Hotel Georgia residences accused of causing $1M in damages

Vancouver police are looking for the person they believe may have caused $1 million in damages to the tower residences of one of the city's most prestigious hotels.

Crime Stoppers says the woman is believed to have turned on a fire hose in the stairwell of the Rosewood Hotel Georgia tower residences, causing water damage to several suites.

Who would be dumb enough to buy it? While the rich may be different from you and me, why would anyone throw away $6,645 a month on maintenance fees? This building is only going to get more expensive to maintain as it ages. Add to that they would likely be paying the Empty Homes Tax as nobody local is going to purchase it.

Seems like the hotel is leasing it out on a minimum of three month stays:

The hotel now plans to close for more renovations between Jan. 1 and March 31, the hotel's director of sales and marketing, Paul Li, told BIV this afternoon.

"The lobby will be reimagined," he said. "Certainly a level of sophistication and elegance is what we're aiming for."

He said the hotel's 1927 Lobby Lounge would go through a "physical transformation." That lounge is based on a mezzanine above the lobby and it will stay there.

Li said that when the hotel reopens it will also have a bar on the ground-floor level, with tables and seating for people to enjoy drinks.

"Where we have the front desk, it will be transformed into a bar," he said.

The January through March period is a slow season for downtown Vancouver hotels. The Rosewood Hotel Georgia's temporary closure will be a loss, however, for people who want to stay at the prime intersection of West Georgia and Howe Streets.
