Google Maps Street View now doing San Antonio

On my way to work today, I saw a Chevy Cobalt with a weird looking contraption on its roof. I let the car pass me up and saw a big Google sticker on the back with the street view icon. I put two and two together and figured out that Google is now taking pictures of SA for street view. I followed the car for a few minutes and took some pics of it with my camera phone. I will upload them later.

There is a good possibility that I might come out on Google maps, so if you see a green Honda accord, it is probably me.

Just thought you all might like to know.

Hard to tell but the Cobalt has a "thing" on its roof, presumably, the camera.

The car in front of the car directly in front of me.

The blueish car taking a left.

That's funny. If it's true, (and I don't see why not), that they are coming to San Antonio, then be prepared for some craziness. Those Google Street View maps and pictures are awesome. You really do get the feeling you're riding along with them through the city. That's cool that they're doing it for San Antonio, so far in Texas only Houston has it.

Have a look.

Does anyone know how long it takes from the time that pictures are taken to when they are uploaded and applied to Google Maps?

I don't know. I'd say a few weeks at least until they're completely finished with the areas they're planning on doing.

Did the contraption look like this --

If so, they've already got a bunch of SA and some Austin stuff already done. The Immersive stuff will even do a live video where you can pan around... their site shows the streets they've done, but you can only preview certain sections, like this one of 6th street -

Holy cow-- a pannable video! Unbelievable. I'm sure this stuff has been around since The Matrix, but this application of the technology is fantastic!

They covered a ton of area in DFW as well. Looking at the photos most of them were taken in September 07. On a Saturday morning of course, when no one is out
