Old Dartmouth photograph

Not sure of the date... I haven't had much of a chance to look too closely at it. My grandfather had this.

Photobucket keeps resizing the bloody thing. Let me know if you want a larger copy, I'll email or something.

Edit: I'm thinking 1930s...maybe 40s.

Nice. I like how Park Avenue goes all the way through to the waterfront.

Can I use this opportunity to say how much I hate Alderney Drive? 4 sterile lanes along the water, where it wraps from Portland by the HRSB building up along the canal? No sidewalks, no buildings facing it, four lanes wide, but too bumpy and too many sharp turns to be a fast highway type street. Kinda pointless, totally crappy, cuts the town off from the waterfront.

Hopefully the Kings Wharf development will cause the city to redevelop that whole stretch to be useful.

I agree, 1940s, the cars are mostly black sedans (Think Hudson).

Notice there are THREE ferries. Now this is probably pre-bridge, but it still makes you think, eh?

I loved the old ferries.

Three ferries, but I think they only ever operated two, with the third either as a backup, or waiting to be scrapped.
Agreed on Alderney Drive, why they never continued the sidewalk all the way to Prince Albert is beyond me...although the street does look a lot better during summer, when all the hanging baskets are out and banners and flower beds.

Although there are three ferry ramps... the one to the far left is empty.

That one wouldn't have been used operationally, as there's no way to get a vehicle to it. That would presumable be where a spare might sit.
