With how good the leafs have been playing lately, maybe they will make the playoffs this time.

If the leafs do make the playoffs (im still not sold) I want a leafs-habs series. How awesome would that be for the rivalry?

... You are making quite the assumption that the Habs will be higher than 9.

Just sayin

lol, I saw this reply coming from a mile away.

How is it "quite the assumption" to think the team that finished 6th last season without its most important player who will make a return in december will make the playoffs? Yes they had rough start, but the ship has been righted the past 3 games. I think you're the one who's making quite the assumption here my friend.

Realistically, I think a playoff spot would be exceeding expectations. I'm kinda worried about Kessel/Schenn getting injured and everything falling apart.
I'm feeling this is Tampa Bay's year.

Gotta love the hate from the flames/canucks/habs fans though!

Who needs Kessel, when you have, Lupuls is not a disease.

I think a playoff spot is very possible. But "ending the drought" generally implies the Cup - which is why Leaves fans have been perpetually funny for decades now. The minute the team does well in the short term, suddenly "this is the year!". Hence, parade route jokes that never stop being funny.

It's not hate, it's an understanding of the reality of the situation. Getting excited about your team doing well is one thing. Predicting a post-season berth is all well and good. But forecasting a team that hasn't made the post-season at all in 6 years and hasn't even made it to the final in over 40 to suddenly win the cup on the basis of 12 games?

Laughable doesn't even begin to describe it. It's just pure batshit insanity. Let's talk in February and see how they're doing.

Oh I am, in that I assumed Montreal fans were realistic.

Lupul with the hat trick! (In under 8 minutes too!)

I'm not going as far as suggesting they win the cup (not even close), but I really do think they're playoff material. I've been waiting for the collapse since the OTL to Colorado, but it hasn't come yet. Still holding my breath though.

Also, Phil Kessel has the best offensive start for the Leafs since 1944-1945!!!
In Phil's shadow, nobody has noticed that Joffrey Lupul is ppg, and Phaneuf has 11 points.

Also notice that Kes is 4th in assists, Lupul is 4th in goals, and Lupul and Phaneuf are 3rd and 5th in plus/minus.

I caught this last night, and this is what's making me be a bit less cynical than usual. When Dion can keep his personal life out of his game, and his ego out of the locker room - he's an amazingly talented hockey player. His last 2-3 seasons haven't exactly been horrible, but they're nowhere near the potential this kid has.

If he's managed to straighten things out, and can keep this up - that will be a huge difference maker. Kessel can't carry this team by himself but with some backup... hmm...

Mind you, Calgary still has Hagman and Stajan pumping out the goals, so I still think we did well here.

Erik Karlsson, what a beast! Great potential to be Lidstrom's new heir, all he's got to do is improve his defensive game and he would be a pretty complete Defenseman. Watch out for David Rundblad too. One of my fav prospects.
