Highrise Construction Thread

So that non-"tallest" projects won't get mixed in with low-rises...

Update on the almost-complete West Pender Place, by Yellow Fever:

West Pender Place looking good.

Here's a fair sized Toronto project not on any radar:

TCHC: Block 32 Development, Railway Lands (West of Cityplace), 41 storeys

Precast concrete being installed.

The "dig" in front of the TCHC Block 32 is the Library District Condominiums project.

I really love the West Pender Podium (not to mention curtainwall). The simplicity, lighting and water feature is awesome

The point is to separate general highrise construction from lowrise construction which I agree with.

ok, float your own boats!

Freepa will be complaining in no time, that this will be a Toronto dominated thread, and requesting to have it removed from the general forum as this has nothing to do with Canada or the theme of this website.

I think this is a good thread, I can see some projects that I don't really know much about on here.

Also, it won't be Toronto dominated if everyone pitches in a posts pictures of highrise construction in their city.
Sorry I can't help you here, no highrises going up in Hamilton right now.

Since there's a lot more highrise construction in Toronto/Vancouver than other cities, I'm automatically assuming that for these 2 cities that people will be more selective with which projects to post, so to not "dominate" the thread with uninteresting buildings perhaps? Maybe the title should be adjusted to "best highrise projects in your city"

It's ok dlueng, this thread make sense to me now.. - It will be a good place to post construction pics of tall buildings, not tall enough to get into the other list, and seperate out the lowrise stuff into the general construction thread.

Calgary should have quite a few projects in here, as it looks like we might be on the edge of another boom.

I'm looking forward to seeing some Calgary proposals. It would be nice to share the proposal fun with some other cities, and there is no doubt Calgary is booming.

Cityplace and TCHC Block 32 update. It's still in the early phases of construction but it's looking quite clear that the Community Housing project will end up looking way better than any of the existing Cityplace towers.

If you are talking about TCHC, I saw somewhere that it will be 41 floors.

Aspen Ridge Scoops Two Major OHBA Design Awards for 77 Charles West

TORONTO, SEPTEMBER 28, 2010…At the recent Ontario Home Builders' Association (OHBA) 2010 Awards of Distinction, Aspen Ridge Homes took home two prestigious honours (Most Outstanding High Rise Building and Most Outstanding High Rise Condo Suite) for its exclusive condominium in Toronto’s Bay-Bloor area, 77 Charles West (77charles.ca). The criteria for the Most Outstanding High Rise Building included its concept, overall exterior and interior appeal, the creative use of materials and common spaces, and functionality. Likewise, Most Outstanding High Rise Condo Suite was judged on overall appeal, the use of building forms and materials, creative use of space, functionality, plus originality.

Aspen Ridge shares the OHBA honours with its esteemed design team. An architectural masterpiece, 77 Charles is the creation of HOK’s Yann Weymouth, the chief design architect for I.M. PEI’s Grand Louvre Museum in Paris. The exterior of 77 Charles features a fascinating interplay of light and glass, and holds its own in an area of architectural gems. When viewed from Bloor Street, the building resembles a crown at the top of Thomas Street.

The award-winning 1,549 sq. ft., one-bedroom Suite No. 3 features a curved exterior wall of glass and two balconies, one of which is off the sumptuous master bedroom with its large walk-in closet and ensuite with an oval tub, separate shower and double-sink vanity. The second balcony is off the spacious main living area. Interiors by the renowned Powell & Bonnell evoke a quiet opulence.

Construction is underway on 77 Charles West, which is located in the cultural heart of Toronto, only minutes from the Royal Ontario Museum, Gardiner Museum, new Frank Ghery-designed Art Gallery of Ontario, beautiful campuses of the University of Toronto, and prestigious Yorkville with its world-class galleries, fashion and cuisine.

A limited collection of designer suites is still available, priced from $1.2 million.
