Superb rendering. When will they finish this building?

There should be some music to go along with this tower's rise.

Or, for a compilation of this construction boom....

I think Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" is more appropriate for New New York. As for Wagner, I think the Tannhauser Overture is his best work and, like "Ride of the Valkyries", gives the listener a sensation of flying and experiencing something phenomenal.

When it's completed, we can get a timelapse of the rise with that music.

Just a bit on the MOMA expansion...

https://nonprofitquarterly.org/2016/...a-and-the-met/

Quote:
By 2019 or 2020, an expansion into the tower to the west of the museum will be named the David Geffen Wing, and the fourth-floor suite of galleries in the current building will also be named after him, according to museum officials.

The concrete already looks good. It's going to look amazing a full 1000 feet, even without cladding.

ahh finally ! . .
a realistic coloring of Verre's fine-lookin crown . . What-the-hell, it looks great ! . .
(2nd picture down in mrjoanofarc's post above) . . .
If a rendering of Verre is from the immediate North . . or immediate South . .
we usually get that non-sensical Neapolitan ice-cream crown version . .
(last picture in mrjoanofarc's post above) . .
the never-to-happen chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry colored crown . .
Why ? . . . . drama and slimming, I suppose . .

ok, I squawk about annoying renderings . . you guys pretend not to notice . .
But I can spot an urban whangdoodle from a mile away . . so y'all should listen up . .
For a thrill, check out the urban dictionary on "neapolitan" . .

Seriously - get-a-load of CPT's gorgeous well-proportioned deco-ish spire there . .
(mrjoanofarc's post . . 2nd picture down) . . .
Is that NOT . . THE perfect solution for CPT . . or what ! ! . .
a perfect solution for an otherwise mediocre building . . that's been witlessly trashed . .

This particular spire . . is absolutely unique & appropriate . . It is not ostentatious . .
It's an exquisite expression of jubilation . . ingeniously integrated . .
at a 45 degree angle . . into a fold at the northeast corner of the crown . .
It's a minimally articulated contemporary design . .
that utterly complements the highest volume in this greatest city . .
and boy is it sorely needed . . and that isn't in my "humble" opinion . .
(thanks for the postings mrjoanofarc) . .

^The black rendering is a 3rd party, the 'neapolitan' is official. More then likely the crown is tri-colored now, and for the better I'd say

Yum Yum ! . . 3 flavors of metal cladding . . delicious ! . .
From the point of view, . .
in 2nd pic down in mrjoanofarc's post above . . .
111 looks like the slender 4th vertical section of Verre . .

......The other unusual feature of 53W53’s diagrid is what it is made of. Nouvel’s original design was intended to be built in steel. But the floor-to-floor heights of a steel structure would have limited the number of storeys too much, so WSP | Parsons Brinckerhof investigated how to create the same aesthetic in concrete instead – “the first time that a diagrid structure of this magnitude and complexity has been done in concrete,” notes Oliveira.

Aside from the complex structural gymnastics, the team also spent considerable time evaluating how 53W53 could actually be delivered. Because of its complexity, construction will take more than five years, around double the programme for a more conventional design. One of the biggest challenges was designing the nodes where different structural components would join. Reinforcement for perhaps seven or eight elements had to fit into the same node, and then the concrete had to be able to flow freely to enclose it and produce a sound structure.

Oliveira’s team worked closely not only with the architect but the construction team, which included commissioning a mock-up of the rebar. “Rather than just coming up with solutions that looked good on paper, we assessed the constructability of the job too. That’s not normally part of the engineer’s role but this is such a unique building, it needed a unique approach.”
