Oooooh! pic #3340 Wow! The contrast of the "soft/curvy" Salesforce vs. the sharp angles and vertical lines of the 181 Fremont, against the black sky.... What a duo! True a taller 181 would have been nice but I have noticed that both Chicago and N.Y. and other world class skylines have the same "set up". You have a supertall and there always a "sidekick". The best skylines have that dynamic of a signature tower usually next to it a slightly shorter signature tower. It works. Before, San Francisco only had that dynamic in the movie The Towering Inferno. Remember the Glass tower and next to it the Peerless Tower? Otherwise we are back to a plateau skyline..... ala Montreal, Boston, Miami, Honolulu, San Diego, Vancouver, etc.

Yeah that's a roof crane to take over the hoisting of the last incidental materials.

Great shot. I think the contrast is a match. Sorta like a batman and robin pairing.

Since Jerry took his picture, the construction hoist on the Mission Street side has been taken down.

The latest view from my apartment, 27th floor of the Essex Fox Plaza (with the aid of a zoom lens on my camera). The screen on the top 3 floors looks very thin in an up-close photo.

Trivia: The Fox Plaza has retained it name in the last 50 years except when Grosvenor bought the building at which time it was called Grosvenor for 3 years. Grosvenor was a negligent landlord!

They started installing panels where the West crane used to be, and also where the North lift used to be. Approx. 1:20pm on the park tower webcam.

I don't care what anybody says, this is clearly the tallest tower on the west coast.

This is an incredible photo that looks like a CGI rendering from a few years ago about how the future skyline would look. The only thing giving it away as real are the cranes and unfinished facade.

^ That is a gorgeous pic and I love how the angles of the sun reflect on it.

I don't think this tower would fit well in many cities in the U.S., but it fits perfect here. I like it much more than I thought I would...especially on sunny days like that^

Pelli prides himself on designing for the site. He did a whole documentary about it.

@1977 - if I ever saw a photo resembling the rending most closely, that would be it!

I think it turned out even better than the rendering. I had doubts a white obelisk would look good or "fit" in with the existing skyline. Turns out to be more reflective - (mirror-like) than anticipated. My eye does not go to the Transamerica anymore, when looking at the skyline as a whole. Now it's Salesforce. Though in the near future, Oceanwide may change that.

Isn't it funny that we talk about the photo, which is real, resembling the rendering, which is fake. I think it's the other way around. The rendering ended up being very close to reality.
