[Gatineau] Le Viu | 19 fl | Completed

I just saw this article about a 18 floor "Miami style" condo in downtown Gatineau. I don't think I saw a thread for this one. If there is let me know.

Looks like it will be right next door to "Port de Plaisance", which is another condo building that one might refer to as "Miami-style":

http://www.emporis.com/building/port...atineau-canada

It was built in the 1980s, though I am not sure if it was by Groupe Heafey.

Anyway, good news if it happens.

What are the chances it gets approved.

Unless there is something I am unaware of, this is almost a sure thing. Gatineau is desperate for residential development downtown.

It will definitely be approved, if I'm not mistaken Gatineau council essentially lifted height restrictions last year to encourage just this type of development.

Not bad, but there still needs to be more smaller to mid-scale development right downtown to fill in some of those lots.

Very true. Though this is a positive it is still some distance away from the real downtown of Hull. Most of the people who live at Port de Plaisance (right next door to the new tower) actually do most of their errands in the Byward Market in Ottawa across the river because it is closer and more convenient.

Stuff like Le Cartier-Wellington, which is right close to Promenade du Portage, is more beneficial to downtown Hull.

Although every little bit helps!

Can someone post the pic from the article in this thread when they have a second? I seem to have difficulties posting pics on this website. Thanks.

Here's the condo in question.

The first time I saw the rendering I actually didn't notice the cut-out in the middle of the structure. Kind of looks weird, like wall plug or something.

There's a thread for this project already. I think I opened it last month. Not sure how to merge them.

They should emphasize that weird hole in the middle of the building and call it 'Eye in the Sky', which translates into...???

I think it would sound better in the plural: "les yeux dans les cieux," which would necessitate redoing the whole design

(repost of a render & ad from the Gatineau page)

Edit: I actually see that this is the same render from before. It almost looks better in small - probably a good sign for how it will look on the skyline!

I think this place has more of a chance to start construction than the Cartier Wellington.
