Portland, OR - 2 Hours in Downtown & The Pearl District

I spent a couple hours walking around Downtown Portland and the Pearl District this afternoon. Here are some photos (just to prove I was there )…

South Park Blocks…

Streetcar tracks passing through Portland State University

The tracks in this photo are not yet in use. The new light rail line will open in 2009.

That girl + that dude = ?

Pioneer Courthouse Square

One of the people in this photo is not human

Portland has tons of these food carts at various locations around downtown. It was well past lunchtime when I walked by, so not many customers, but they’re pretty popular.

Always wanted to stay at the Ace Hotel. Apparently each room has a turntable and records.

Into the Pearl District…

North Park Blocks

Jamison Square

(See, I told you )

That’s the Fremont Bridge in the background, carrying I-405 across the Willamette River

Tanner Springs Park

The Pearl is still under construction

It started snowing/hailing… I’ve lived here less than a year, but I don’t think this is particularly common for late March in Portland.

Hope you enjoyed the walk.

Good job of showing what makes Portland special....all the trees and I love those narrow streets with just one lane of through traffic.

Love to see a city doing so much cool stuff! Tho, I'm not feeling a lot of that public art.

How, great tour! I love seeing Portland in here. It makes me regret moving from the Pacific Northwest.

Geez that's a nice lookin' town. I like the ambling-about-town feel of this thread.

Great thread, really gives a nice feel for the neighborhood. I'll be in Portland in July, I might be following the Oregon Trail (camping my way between Westport (Kansas City) and Portland, minus the prairie schooner and diphtheria, don't laugh! The computer game some of us grew up with makes that now sound silly...)

The Pearl district is almost flawlessly executed urban just-out-of-the-core development. I remember totally falling in love with this building when I was there:

Thanks for not taking a picture of Rogue, it would have just made me sad knowing it's so far away.

Yeah, I'm using photobucket instead of imageshack, now.

I walked right by it, and usually stop in when I'm in that area. But I have a few pics of it already, so I didn't think I needed another.

I heard it was fifteen degrees below average yesterday in Portland. Snow on the valley floor is rare any time but unheard of in March. Thanks for showing us around. Love that Wells Fargo Center and Bank of California building.

One of the most underrated N.A. cities imo. I love Portland. So much to see and do and so beautiful. You captured it quite well. Thanks.

I've been doing a lot of work with the folks at Photobucket here in Denver. A really good bunch, glad to hear that it works awesomely.
