Ditto. It's amazing what some sun, trees in bloom and (relative) lack of smog can show.

This could not be April 4th (yesterday) as the river was clear of ice and snow (at least east of rideau).

It's cool that you can see where the greenbelt separates Kanata, Orleans, and Barrhaven from the parts of the city inside the greenbelt.

I wonder how long before the Ottawa-Montreal-Cornwall Megalopolis is all connected together. I'm going to guess 2217.

That thought horrifies me. I am glad that I will be long dead.

It'll take about 175 years of current low-density sprawl at the edges to create Montawa.

Population growth is going to slow down, though. The natural increase rate is already dropping, indications are that will go negative by 2030. Furthermore with increased development in the third world immigration demand will also be lower. Whereas now demand exceeds the quota, in the coming decades we may have problems with the quota not being filled. Canada's population a hundred years from now won't be that much bigger than it is today (maybe about 10-15 million more).

Montawa, or Montawall if you want to include Cornwall, may never happen.

If growth in Ottawa & Montreal continue as a narrow tube along the highways (as had happened along autoroute 15 north of montreal) and in no other directions, it could happen. Ottawa is growing mostly westward & southward, though, not southeast along the 417 (there's a good amount of growth right now in Embrun & Casselman but that's already tapering off).
