NEW YORK | Chrysler, Chanin & Lincoln Bldgs | 1929-1930

Three of my favourite skyscrapers, built, miraculously, in the same area at the same time.

Lincoln Building : 205 m (673 ft) , 1930, 55 floors
Chanin Building : 207 m (680 ft) , 1929, 56 floors
Chrysler Building : 319 m (1046 ft) , 1930, 77 floors

You have good taste to include the Lincoln and Chanin Buildings.
Two wonderful buildings that are often overlooked.

We've all seen the Chrysler a million times, with good reason. Big props for the pics of the Lincoln building however. You never notice it until you're walking near grand central. Then you look up and say 'damn' where'd that building come from.

Abu Dhabi fund snaps up NY's Chrysler Building

NEW YORK (AFP) — The Abu Dhabi Investment Council has bought the landmark New York skyscraper, the Chrysler Building, for 800 million dollars, sources close to the deal said Wednesday.

Media reports had said the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, an investment fund based in the United Arab Emirates, had been holding negotiations with a subsidiary of Prudential Financial Inc. over its 75 percent stake in the renowned Art Deco building.

"We have sold our stake of 75 percent on Tuesday," Prudential spokeswoman Theresa Miller said.

The 77-story Chrysler Building, one of New York's best-known skyscrapers, is 25-percent owned by Tishman Speyer Properties, a privately held New York real estate firm.

The secretive Abu Dhabi Investment Council has over 800 billion dollars of assets under management and made a 7.5-billion-dollar investment in Citigroup, one of America's biggest financial institutions, last November.

It is managed by the largest emirate in the oil-rich UAE.

The fund does not usually publicize its operations. UAE media reports say it recently reformed itself into the Abu Dhabi Investment Council having previously operated as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

The Chrysler Building, which was designed by the architect William Van Alen, was erected between 1928 and 1930 and was New York's tallest building until its skyward reach was surpassed by the Empire State Building.

Deep-pocketed UAE investment groups have purchased and sold a number of high profile New York buildings in recent years.

The Chrysler Building and its extensive office space was originally constructed for the Chrysler car company.

Times are changing.

Whoever has the lease for the ESB I believe lasts until 2076.

Chrysler buildings

According to The New York Times’s archives, the first building this newspaper referred to as a skyscraper was its own. “The New ‘Times’ Building. To Be Thirteen Stories High and of Granite and Limestone,” read the headlines on June 13, 1888. The article was about the old Times building at 41 Park Row, which was adding eight stories. (The Times moved to Times Square in January 1905.)

Abu Dhabi Investment Council does not own the Chrysler Building. The Cooper Union, believe it or not, does. Abu Dhabi bought a 75% lease of the building from Prudential, not the building itself.

The Chrysler pretty much defines Skyscraper beauty. Easily makes the list of top 3 most attractive skyscrapers in the world of all time, IMO.

And yes, there's gonna be a huge 40:1 scaled drawing of the Chrysler under my hood, which has already started for a long time now... Over 2.57GB of harddrive space being occupied and 85000 layers in my Corel Photopaint, just to make the 1st bottom set back of the spire... 7 more to go.
