This one reminds me of the Comcast Tower; the way the crown is lit up.

Something occurs to me that sort of reinforces maybe how great an architect Pelli is. He can design the show-stopper towers that define and reshape a skyline (BofA Charlotte, Key Cleveland, Petronas) and at the same time produce a number of great but decidedly understated buildings that are better than filler, but nothing overly amazing (777 Tower LA, Bloomberg, Battery Park City)

I'd even argue that 1 and 2 IFC fall into the 2nd category. Huge and well detailed, but clearly giving deferrence to the fact that Bank of China is the skyline star.

It's actually contextualism at its finest.

I've always liked Cesar Pelli's buildings, I'd love to meet him in person. He seems like such a cool person.
He does have a talent for designing buildings that as striking as they are, also harmonize with their surroundings.

WOW, I thought for a second I was looking at photos from the Time Warner Center. Bloomberg's atrium is impressive.

"I'd love to meet him in person. He seems like such a cool person."

He is - he spoke at a presentation in Cleveland several years ago; very soft-spoken, very humble (he was flattered and surprised that I 1. had one of his books and 2. asked for his autograph*) but also very intelligent.

I can't say that Bloomberg is one of my favorite Pelli designs but as plinko said, I think this tower skews more toward the understated end of his portfolio.

Understated really is the keyword here. And I find it interesting how it's such an understated design that what looks pleasantly sharp and high-quality up close comes off as surprisingly ho-hum when seen from afar, meaning I agree with whoever it was that said it makes for an unimpressive skyline element.

But up close this one delights with its quiet dignity... from October:

Definitely doesn’t get as much credit as it deserves, though I agree that distance doesn’t do this one much justice. As these pics show, you need to see this one up close in person to appreciate what it brings to the table.

You would think this would have been built somewhere close to Times Square...
