I like the waterfall idea (first video). I need to build something like that in my house.

I like the water fall as well. I heard that every time the display is changed they are charged 10K. Seems like a lot of money to me... But it would still be cool.

I really wish they would have "thought outside the box" and done something other than heavy masonry.

I also wish they'd put some Boston ivy or other climbing vines up the side of it.

I was not immediately against the brick when I saw the renderings but now that I see the real product I'm not into it. Bummer.

Also, agreed. Let's get some green on this mid block.

They definitely need some Boston ivy or a combination of climbing plants, similar to this garage on 200 W.

The top floor is bigger than the other floors and it throws everything off.

Agree Stenar. I'm sure it will look better once the street scene is added. However, I still don't understand why they can't create a shallow but comfortable arrangement of studios at the façade. Something that would work for young professionals and or students. It would be a huge improvement aesthetically, and could only help to enliven the street even further as a 24/7 corridor.

There are existing offices on the ground floor of the garage, which I believe they're going to turn into shops. It could be interesting to add small offices on some of the upper floors.

I think the situation came down to what the structure could handle as built (based on some comments from an inside source a couple of months back). I don't think parking structures are built to handle the same load capacities as buildings for other use types. Part of that probably has to deal with fire separation. If you had to add an extra 4" of concrete at 150 pounds per cubic foot to get a two hour fire rating for the floor (or whatever you need in this situation) then all of a sudden the structure is woefully undersized. But that's just my theory.

I still think the brick is disappointing, but I'll reserve my judgement until the final product is finished. I just love what Santa Monica has been doing with their parking garages... too bad we can't get some of it here.

I agree, that the garage needs some ivy growing on it. The impact of the Pierpont garage is drastically reduced with just that little bit of ivy growing on it.

While 111 isn't anything overly spectacular, sexy or boundary breaking I do like the overall look of the building, it has clean lines, the illuminated crown will be nice and I think the unencumbered lobby will be the coolest feature of it. Which is what I would prefer, considering that is where it will meet with the pedestrians.

The mix of colors of 111 with it's glass and grey blended with the white of the EPAC are a nice combination. IMO.

Stenar is 100% correct, they are supposed to be extending the fronts of the existing office space on the first floor of the garage, out to the sidewalk and converting it to retail space. This could be a great street for a Gallery Stroll.

We always get the reject designs from SOM's portfolio. 111 Tower looks like it was designed by a first year intern straight out of a for-profit design school. New York didn't want it. Chicago didn't want it. So they dumped it on Salt Lake because they know we always accept mediocre designs. Just another dull glass box that will look dated in 10 years.

Right, just like 222 which will totally look dated in 3 years.
