Do you know if one phase would be the mini-tower by itself and the second a mid/high-rise or is the second phase a separate tower all together. Of course this assumes that this is even a real thing.

Would you care to elaborate on the curtain-wall aspect? I’m just curious as to what justified or doesn’t justify one in these situations.

Superdome renovation contract up for review Thursday

A construction contract to begin renovating the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is on the agenda at a Thursday meeting of the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District board.

The board must sign off on the contract before renovations can begin. It would be awarded to local construction company Broadmoor LLC, selected earlier this year to manage the first phase of the project set to begin in January.

The project, with total costs estimated at $450 million, is part of a financing plan that is aimed at keeping the New Orleans Saints in Louisiana for decades.

The 44-year-old stadium will see its ramp system removed and replaced with elevators and escalators, club and suite levels expanded, new entry gates erected, concession stands added and access for people with disabilities improved.

Construction is expected to take four years and will be completed before the Superdome hosts its next Super Bowl in 2024, officials have said.

Borrowing plans to pay for the upgrades won unanimous backing from the State Bond Commission, a panel of statewide elected officials and lawmakers. The state, the Saints and the Superdome management district will share in the borrowing repayment, with the state covering $90 million, the Saints putting up $150 million and the district paying $210 million.

Lawmakers will have to determine how to pay for the state’s share. The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District will cover its portion of construction costs with a local hotel tax dedicated to its operations and revenue it receives from events at its facilities, officials said.

Louisiana’s current contract with the Saints, negotiated by former Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration in 2009, runs through 2025.

Expansion plans advance for New Orleans’ 911 center

The Orleans Parish Communication District has agreed to negotiate a contract with a local architecture company to design an expansion of the Chief Warren E. McDaniels Sr. 911 Center.

The OPCD Board of Commissioners on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution allowing OPCD executive director Tyrell Morris to negotiate with VergesRome to expand the facility at 118 City Park Ave.

In March, the board authorized a concept and feasibility study to be completed by VergesRome. The expansion is needed to handle a growing staff and partnerships with regional public safety agencies, officials have said.

A news release said the project will include the following:

Additional space and positions on the OPCD operations floor to manage increased 9-1-1 and 3-1-1 call volumes, and to provide services for all emergency response agencies operating in Orleans Parish
Bunking space for OPCD and partner agency personnel during extended emergency operations
Emergency Operations Center
Training and simulation space
Emergency vehicle storage for public safety agencies to stage for easy deployment
Increased technology infrastructure space to accommodate Next Generation 9-1-1 technology soon to be required by federal legislation
An onsite childcare facility designed for the families of first responders.
“Since the consolidation of 9-1-1 operations in 2016, OPCD has continued to grow in our services and function, growing from 16 to 180 full time employees,” Morris said in a statement. “As the entity responsible for emergency and non-emergency services for the City of New Orleans, it is imperative that we have the resources necessary to execute our mission for the ever-evolving public safety environment of the 21st century. Emergency communications centers no longer function simply as call centers; they now operate as intelligence organizations on the front line, and need to be resourced as such.”

A design is expected to be presented within the coming months, the news release said.

The total project cost ranges between $15 million to 25 million and would be funded through a combination of bonds, grants and 9-1-1 fee revenue.

Thanks for the airport security updates everyone. This new Nola.com article explains it further.

Quote:
She said the equipment for seven of the lanes was installed a week before the new terminal opened using surplus machines normally used only for emergency evacuations. Then four more machines were moved, one per night, from the old terminal to the new one once it opened.

Koshetz said TSA and the airport are working on getting up to the full, 15-lane capacity, which she said should be done in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

MAYOR CANTRELL CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF BOURBON STREET REVITALIZATION, PHASE 2

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor LaToya Cantrell today joined other City officials and community partners for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the $9.5 million Bourbon Street Revitalization, Phase 2 project in the French Quarter. The project began in September 2018 and spans the 500-800 blocks of Bourbon Street (from St. Louis to Dumaine).

“This is a historic day for some historic infrastructure improvements along Bourbon Street. We were able to get work done faster and even better under our administration,” said Mayor Cantrell. “Bourbon Street is an iconic street, it’s a world-class street that everyone knows around the world. So we were intentional about ensuring that all of our businesses along Bourbon Street were not only listened to but they were taken into consideration, particularly during this second phase of Bourbon Street construction. Making sure they remain viable in this city is a top priority, and we just appreciate how they worked with us and through this construction.”

The cost-shared project was designed by Mott McDonald, LLC and was constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC. Project partners included Entergy Electric, Entergy Gas, Cox Communications and AT&T, in close coordination with tourism partners. The Department of Public Works also worked with the New Orleans Police Department on security improvements during the project. The contractor fully reconstructed the roadway between St. Louis and Dumaine streets (500-800 blocks) with upsized drainage, a better sewer system, new sidewalks and new, smoother pavement.

Additionally, the lighting and security were upgraded between St. Louis and Dumaine streets. Entergy Gas and Entergy Electric also completed upgrades in those blocks.

“It has been a monumental effort that truly is a model for our infrastructure work across the city,” said Ramsey Green, Deputy CAO for Infrastructure.

The project benefits include:

Replacing/repairing of existing underground electrical duct banks (Entergy Electric)
Removing and replacing the existing pavement
Replacing and upsizing the existing drain lines and catch basins
Replacing the existing water lines
Repairing/replacing the existing sewer lines
Installing a moveable bollard system
Mayor Cantrell and Deputy CAO Green were joined by Ghassan Korban, Executive Director, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans; New Orleans Police Department Supt. Shaun Ferguson; Kristian Sonnier, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations, New Orleans & Co.; Lori Paige, Vice President, French Quarter Business Association; Keith LaGrange, Director, Department of Public Works; Josh Hartley, Deputy Director, Department of Public Works; and contractors Mott MacDonald LLC (designer) and Hard Rock Construction.

Finally used the airport both in terms of departing and arriving. What a grand facility it is in person. No issues experienced the entire time. No traffic issues, security took 20 minutes to clear, our bags arrived with us at our destination, our bags also came out very quickly upon arrival, and no issues leaving the terminal as well. The region has something to be very proud of.

that the baggage arrived very quickly upon arrival is great to hear.. sometimes the old terminal was extremely slow. I am also very pleasantly surprised how the traffic has worked at the loyola exit, even without the flyover ramps it still seems like acces is better than the airline hwy access to the old terminal

Great to see South Market continuing to expand and remove parking lots! I could see 828 Girod being a smaller condo building
