I used a script for
GIMP (a free alternative to PS) called "vintage film effect" which can be found in the
FX Foundry plugin pack. I'm not familiar with GIMP's scripting language, but it looks like the script adjusts saturation and contrast, then adds a sepia layer and then a magenta layer. Obviously more complicated than that but the effect looks good.
I'm not big on radical photo processing, but I think this looks suitable for the subject. I would have preferred to use actual film but I don't have a wide lens for my Nikon FG.
I'm also kicking myself for not taking some shots inside the lobbies of these buildings. Many of them still have the original decor.
