283 rooms seems pretty small for a JW. I like the decoration on the glass.

Mandarin Oriental to 2999 Turtle Creek

One of the world's poshest hotel flags is finally planting in Dallas after a failed attempt before the 2008 Recession in Victory Park. Landing in the same zip code but a little to the northwest. The development will contain 176 rooms and 120 residences. More details will come later down the road.

Great news to hear about the JW! To be completely honest, I was a bit worried we were going to be stuck with that parking garage without any of the mixed-use components being built for 5+ years.

High-rise Hilton hotel in the works for Uptown Dallas
Steve Brown
November 12, 2019

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...uptown-dallas/

Quote:
An Austin developer seeks to build a 19-story hotel project in Dallas’ Uptown District.

The high-rise would be built at Hall Street and Oak Grove, just off McKinney Avenue, by Merritt Development Group. The more than 300-room property would be dual-branded as Motto and Spark — two new Hilton brands.
Quote:
The Dallas project would be the first combination of Motto and Spark hotels in the country, a representative for the developer said. The project is one of several hotels in the works for the area just north of downtown Dallas.

Chicago developer eyes Oak Lawn senior housing
Steve Brown
November 12, 2019

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...enior-housing/

Quote:
A Chicago-based senior housing firm is proposing a new project in Dallas’ Oak Lawn neighborhood. The 13-story assisted living and memory care building would be constructed just south of Highland Park on Herschel Avenue.
Quote:
The senior housing project would replace several small residential and commercial buildings on the block, which is already zoned for high-rise construction. Two multistory buildings are already located along the street.

Most likely it's on the backburner until a corporate tenant shows interest in signing a lease, so it's a longshot at this point.

So I got the chance to visit home for Thanksgiving and I've got to say that all the stuff that was under construction when I visited this past spring has turned out really nice. I took about a million photos but here are some of the better ones.

Exxir Capital's building on Davis (denoted as 'Building B' on their masterplan)

Mural along the backside of Building B

Building B landscaping along 9th Street. I really appreciate the aesthetic they're going for with the cactus.

Streetscape along Bishop.

Building E on the opposite side of the street.

Building A right next to it.

New French Bazaar in Building B.

Plaza on the corner of Bishop and Melba

New condos on Melba

View looking East down Melba

New Coffee/Wine Bar

Bishop Highline Phase 2 and Exxir Capital's Apartments

Close-up of this kickass mural

Alamo Manhattan's project

Bishop Arts Streetcar Station

New brewery in Novel's pedestrian esplenade

Old Mayor's House

New condos going up on Zang

Apartments going up across the street

New Condos going up on 9th Street

I also got the chance to photograph some stuff going up in other parts of town but my last post was getting a bit long so I decided to split it into its own post.

Trinity Green (West Dallas)

AMLI Fountain Place

Nove at Knox

Convexity's tower next to Mockingbird Station

Wondering if it'll be visible from Central Expressway since you can easily make out its construction crane.

Downtown "Discovery District" (kind of a dopey name but whatever)

Sick front entrance though

Case Building in Deep Ellum. Not sure if I remember these murals being on it last time I was here.

Residential Portion of 'The Epic'

Flora & Olive Tower

The Victor popping out from behind Victory Park's skyline

Closer-up shot

Awesome photos, guys. Thanks for posting! There's so much happening in Big D right now...it's nice of people to share some of it here on SSP and not just on DallasMetropolis.

It's weird that Amlia looks so much shorter from one angle to the other. Still a very nice compliment to the original. I'm torn on the twin not being built.

First Look: Field Street District in Dallas
The new $1 billion+ mixed-use project from Kaizen Development Partners, Woods Capital, and Dundon Capital will reshape the Dallas skyline.

BY CHRISTINE PEREZ PUBLISHED IN COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE DECEMBER 12, 2019 2:00 PM

Quote:
*Initial plans call for 1.2 million square feet of office space—in 700,000-square-foot and 500,000-square-foot towers—a hotel, and two residential towers with about 300 units in each

*There also will be about 30,000 square feet to 40,000 square feet in amenity space, mostly restaurants and resident/tenant services

*One of the concepts HKS came forward with is the idea of an elevated walkway on top of the DART rail line that runs along the property.”

*The partners expect to break ground in the summer or fall of 2020

Meh. Not really impressed with the architecture at all but I’m almost never a big fan of HKS. Looks like a lot of the buildings going up in Downtown Austin, very trendy and bland, not iconic or unique. Too bad we can’t get something more architecturally significant considering how long those lots have sat there. I wish they would go for something more inline with the Fountain Place development nearby. What DART railine are they referring to? The elevated walkway looks kinda dopey too, if built it would end up looking like one of those ugly highway walkways.

On a positive note, at least they are aiming for high density. There’s a shortage of apartments in that part of downtown. Hopefully the design will improve.
