I think it is that bad... from walking around it, seeing it in person at street level from all angles. The trouble is that this project does not create any context. It is simply an island.

No, it's not. And an ambitious project like Union Square was a good chance to correct the problem of "the wall."

Yes, true. But how long has the Canopy project been under planning? A decade? And the cultural facilities will only address the problem of the south side of Union Square.
I wish I had taken some photos of how this thing looks, blank three-story walls on three sides, a highway and ramps on the fourth side. Sure, this thing looks great on postcards and faraway shots, but there is more to buildings and cities than that.
And now the interior design scheme... no class. The IFC mall has class. This looks like Shatin, way too overdone.
