I've never had much interest in going south of the border, but if I were to ever end up down there I hope I'd get to visit Pittsburgh. Maybe that's just the steel city in my blood talking, but it's got to be one of the most interesting (if not the most interesting) US cities.

Just look at that. It's like the half way point between Istanbul and Tokyo.

Just what I thought when I saw this - I thought, 'this has to be Rome'.

Amazing thread.

Awesome pictures. It's a real testament to Pittsburgh's skyline that so many people consider it to be one of the country's best, even though it's been stagnant and hasn't seen any substantial new buildings in a few decades. The juxtaposition of the rivers, the hills, the bridges, and buildings is picture perfect. If it had Chicago or NY's density of tall buildings in the "Triangle", I'm sure its skyline would rival the world's best.

And I'm looking forward to your move to the east and similar threads for Philly.

Very nice photo shoot PhotoLith, thanks for posting them.

I see there are quite a few abandoned buildings that would be great if they were invested in and refurbished. Hopefully someone or some entity can invest in them before they are torn down.

Pittsburgh is a magnificent city, but it takes a photographic master to convey that as you've done. Positively exquisite; words fail!

PNC tower definitely qualifies as a substantial new building, also the convention center is relatively new and prominent in the skyline. Most new development has been been on a smaller scale than that recently.

Tokyo and Istanbul both seem to have loads of streets with that scale of building, but Istanbul's are typically pre-19th century and Tokyo's are typical glistening modernity. Pittsburgh seems to cover that scale at an era between the two. Tokyo is the electronic era, Pittsburgh the Industrial, and Istanbul Medieval(/Late Roman).
