Oh wow, is that really how it is going to meet the ground along Clark? Just a sheer vertical wall of glass. Sullivan would not approve of this building. No crown AND no base, just a shaft with a zig zag on it...

Do you really think this minimalist design would look good with a fancy crown and base? I'd say no. Those outdated design rules don't always apply to buildings of the modern age. The 80s and 90s already tried them with postmodernism and they often failed.

Judging by the lighting scheme in this picture, I would think the sheer glass wall will only apply to the furthest south wall on Clark. Other renderings also show a different base than the rest of the building.

Crown and base doesn't imply gaudy ornament. It simply implies some sort of resolution to the design. I don't mind a lack of a crown much, but I do mind a design that just crashes into the sidewalk without warning.

I kinda like that last rendering, I think they should have put the Z zig zag that is on the south side of the building on the north side of it.

I don't mind it at all. In fact, I think it adds to the minimalist look. Few buildings are the same from the very base to the top.

Even the best minimalist buildings on earth are very careful in how they interact with the ground. For example, there isn't a single Mies building around that crashes into the ground like a jumbo jet that's lost both it's wings like this building does...

Literally the only part that will have the same glass as the tower extend to the ground is that small portion of the southern facade along Clark. I wouldn't consider that to be a wingless jumbo jet.

Only a small portion of the nose of a jumbo jet is glass as well, they look pretty similar to me...

A very important detail ? Related went to quite a bit of trouble to cut this corner out of the original Waterview column.

They should have called it One11 to be a bit more honest that they copied One57.

First the failure, next the lawsuit to get our money back and now this 'thing". The new design seems so last minute. Not minimalistic but contemporary. The original "design" created a statement. It was a destination building with a luxurious hotel and lavish apartments. I feel the new owners should have waited. It is a great location with a very mediocre building that will not stand the test of time. As soon as it's finished it will be forgotten. Such a let down.
I concur PIMP, the Teng design was much better. The whole purpose of the design was to mimic the Vancouver tall and thin trend and instead we got this monolith.
