Think mountain chalet? I think for Ft. Collins it works well. 221 East Mountain looks very sharp though.

I don't think this has been posted before:

Black Hawk is getting another highrise hotel. The Monarch Casino will be adding a 500 room, 22 story hotel to the existing facility. The hotel has been on the back burner for a couple of years, but it now looks like construction will start this summer, with a 2017 completion.

I wouldn't have thought Black Hawk could handle a 500 room hotel but then I really have no clue about the current Black Hawk.

That definitely is interesting news. We haven't heard much out of Black Hawk since the Ameristar went up and the stakes were changed to $100 a bet. Business keeps plugging away though it seems. My buddies and I thought about going up on a random non-holiday weekend in the fall, and Ameristar rooms were all going for over $300 a night with little to no availability. After rds70's original post, I found this article on Google that seems to confirm that hotel vacancy rates are quite low up there. The article has some additional renderings too. I do like the trend of the rooftop swimming pools on these towers!

I like the thought of Black Hawk becoming more of a destination than just a day trip, these bigger hotels will help a lot in that regards, plus they look pretty cool in that little canyon.

^ I think part of that will be adding more draws and things to do for those of us who think gambling is kinda fun, but aren't as obsessed with it as others. Most gambling destinations that I can think of offer way more in terms of entertainment than Black Hawk. I have to think having more hotel rooms will help with this. I'm not talking cirque-du-soleil or anything, but even a small theater like the Gothic/Ogden/Fox that bands who play the local circuit could add to their tours could potentially work. I've always thought the old narrow-gauge trails going in and out of town would be cool as hiking/atv/snowmobile trails too. But I also understand this is the kind of activity casinos may want to avoid for now, since they keep people out of the casino for an extended part of the day, and the intention of most gaming-town entertainment is to support the gaming rather than supplant it.

They have the Central City Opera House, but I agree 100% with what you say, that valley has always been lacking entertainment to actually keep people there and make people want to spend a weekend, and these bigger hotels may be the catalyst to develop that entertainment end of things.

There have been several proposals throughout the years for these kinds of tracks here. I just don't know that there is the level of rich clientele here to support it like there is in California and the Northeast where they have other tracks like this. We will see if this actually gets built, but the developer definitely spent some money getting it all planned up, which puts some realistic backing behind it.

Altezza Drive Resort set to open near Denver this year

and it's already announcing race car celebrities will be there for the launch celebration this Saturday (today).

How long, and how much $$$$ does it take (after purchasing the land, which I'm assuming they already own or have a long term lease for) to lay down some asphalt, do some landscaping, and build something called a clubhouse? Probably can be done relatively inexpensively by my accounts being pretty far out into the barren land over there.

I think this thing is pretty much a go and will be built..... and I for one would love to get out there some time and just tear up some track. I also think that there's a a number of folks like me in the Denver area. Could it be that hard to make this profitable, other than maybe being a bit far out from the population?

They have to put them far from population, no one likes to live next to the noise.

Have you seen the rates for this track? Its a private club track that requires membership which was pretty pricey. Their website doesn't work anymore either.
