New 168-room hotel planned for Austin’s Domain

By Shonda Novak

A new upscale hotel is coming to the Domain in North Austin that will be the third in the U.S. under the boutique Archer brand, developers told the American-Statesman Monday.

Slated to break ground this fall, the 168-room Archer Austin will be across from a planned Nordstrom store.

The 8-story hotel will have a rustic “Texas chic” theme, with design touches including native Texas limestone, terraces with fireplaces and canopy beds. Each of the guestrooms is being designed to have a different feel.

Definitely. It would be cool to see a tower with a nice design well north of downtown and UT. The views from any development around the Domain would be awesome for sure. Not to mention there would be something tall in North Austin to look at.

Strange, the address points to Neiman Marcus.

If this is where I think it is, there's dirt moving/activity in the lot.

I'm still working on getting the height for this one. The person I've contacted came back with an email a little while ago saying they're planning to break ground next month if they're able to get all their permits. She said the design is nearing the final stages, but that they're still refining it.

I got an email back this morning about the height. It'll be 121 feet 4 inches to the highest architectural element and 100 feet to the main roof slab.

This will be the tallest building at the Domain. Right now the tallest is the Westin at the Domain at 95 feet. It should stand out pretty well since nothing else will even reach its main roof height.

Kevin, I found this map of the layout of the whole area.

It hard to see, but if you look closely it looks like Hotel archer Archer will be built in the center, next to EA and just below Nordstrom.

Great. That hotel is one of the best looking hotels in development in Austin right now IMO.

Awesome! It still blows my mind how everything has changed in that area since the opening in 2007.

Popular downtown Austin restaurant to debut at The Domain on north side

Jan 13, 2015, 10:42am CST

Jan Buchholz
Staff Writer-
Austin Business Journal

Construction on a new Austin hotel in The Domain picked up steam heading into the new year — and a high-profile local restaurant group is getting in on the ground floor.

La Corsha Hospitality Group will open its second Second Bar + Kitchen at the Archer Austin, a 171-room boutique luxury hotel, which is about six weeks into construction.

The Austin Archer is projected to be complete in summer 2016.

I think the Archer is going to end up being a really cool hotel! And I thought so prior to La Corsha signed on to the project.

As cool, perhaps, as a hotel at The Domaine can be. There are limits to coolness at The Domaine.

There are limits to everything at The Domaine*, considering that The Domaine* isn't real.

... It's "The Domain," without an "e."
