Building and monument's lighting design in your city

I think the title self-describe what this thread is about.

I had this idea after discovering this "preview pic" of the new lighting scheme of the Sun Life building in Montreal, by Design CS.

I think Ottawa may beat any monument in the world in this category with the sound and lights show:

I saw it this summer and while it's greatly improved over what it used to be and quite good in fact, I wouldn't get too carried away re: the world.

/\ It's meant to be a spectacle for the 375th celebrations, not something permanent. Like fireworks, if you will.

I think Lyon in France beats Ottawa to the ground.

Yeah, the French are hard to beat at this. And they invented the genre.

Even the British refer to sound and light as "son et lumière" when speaking in English!

Almost nothing here - and what does exist tends to be simply flood lights at the base pointed up or temporary (i.e. rainbow flag on Confederation Building for Pride Week, elaborate Christmas displays on downtown bars, etc.).

Confederation Building (provincial Legislature) during Pride Week:

Colonial Building (former Parliament, currently being restored into a museum of our political history from 1583-1949; but on hold-ish due to our economy; anyhow, example of the flood lights thing).

Oh, and one other. Pics are from when it was still U/C, but the St. John's Convention Centre does the rainbow thing at nights if there's anything on the go. Unlike Confederation Building above, the colours are always moving.

Paris is also amazing in terms of lighting its buildings and monuments. Much better than London, for exemple.

We do have a few fantastic exemples in Canada too, though: The CN tower is great, and so is the stadium in Vancouver. The illumination of Aura's crown in Toronto is also very nice.

That is a creation of Moment Factory, a Mile End studio that has built an international reputation over the last decade or so. They recently expanded to London, Paris and Los Angeles. I have a friend who works there.

Foresta Lumina by Moment Factory in the gorge at Coaticook (Eastern Townships) is amazing. I don't often say this but the last part of the exhibit in the gorge itself is absolutely magical. Like being in another world.

As for monuments, just floodlights. Bowring Park is the best example and it has almost all of our most beloved statues, from the Peter Pan (cast from the same mold as London's) and the Fighting Newfoundlander, as well as the memorial to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, a few Celtic crosses, etc.

Moment Factory's next big prestige project is the illumination of the Jacques-Cartier bridge next spring. Really looking forward to this one.
