Also, the enormous load transfer beams in the middle section of the building, which took a tremendous amount of rebar placement, etc., as it transitions from those larger open common spaces to the smaller hotel room configurations on the floors above. But it looks like everything may now be meeting up at the same uniform level across the entire tower with the floor plate they're currently forming, which hopefully means that floors will soon start being completed at a much faster pace.

^ Yes. We knew things would be slow up to this point (especially the last couple of floors). By my count the "typical" floors are next. By the standards of this project, things will seem to fly along from here.

If Whu's info about 1 floor every 3 days after floor 10 is accurate, it will fly by any standards!

Nothing will happen until the union talks get resolved for the crane operators. Only 2 people on the top floor today (and 6 on site).

Probably returning on Wednesday. Lots of folks and companies are viewing this as a long holiday weekend.

Well, I guess the issue about when 'double time' wages kicks in most have gotten resolved!

???? I thought these large projects that take several years to complete, often/usually have 'do not strike' agreements with the trade unions. Does anyone know anything about that? I would think it would be hard to bid a job if a sub-contractor didn't know what their labor rates were going to be.....

I dont think developers have any control over whether or not the unions strike. When pricing is provided you can assume wage escalation is included if a contract expires during the expected contract duration.

I don't think that's rebar, I think those are the ends of giant cables that are used for post stressing the concrete in those giant transfer beams.

"Giant beams — the size of a bus — installed at W/Element Hotel"

This is subscriber content, but I noticed it wasn't posted here yesterday so I'll post the link for archival purposes. If someone wants to post the text, that'd be great.
