Less than a year away from completion for the hotel, and the first downtown-DIA trains will start in early 2016.

Also United will add to its international service from DEN with non-stops to Panama City starting December 3.

Yes, it opened this year. Though it was pared back from the 10-gate expansion to 5-gates.

Here's a sleek sexy EMU built by the exact same company that you WON'T see or ride in Denver. You'll have to visit, ehmmm, Ukraine to do that. Pity:

No wide doors for easier wheelchair access, no snowplows to help remove snow, no bells to announce arrival at stations, no removable windows to ease emergency access and exit; I'm sorry I pity the riders in Ukraine more. There are many reasons why the manufacturer didn't submit that train set in the bidding process, the main reason being not meeting all FRA regulations.

1 "No wide doors for easier wheelchair access"

Could have easily been spec'd w/ any number of manufacturers. Non-issue.

2 "no snowplows to help remove snow"

For all either of us know this could have been easily procured. Non-issue.

3 "no bells to announce arrival at stations"

Geezus, ye olde railroading here we go again. What purpose that regulation serves is beyond me, and on a dedicated EMU line, absurd. And bells? Seriously? Choo-choo.

4 "no removable windows to ease emergency access and exit"

Same as 1 and 2. Non-issue.

The real reason these ugly dogs were bought is because they piggybacked onto Philadelphia's order to ease the procurement process and possibly keep costs slightly lower. Although that's hard to believe and horrible timing since FRA reg's will be dropped for off-the-shelf EMUs starting next year. That could have saved several million right there.

Could have, but the timing didn't work out. The East Line had to be opened as quickly as possible and any further delay wouldn't have been tolerated. Maybe in 2045 we'll see sleeker looking cars.

I say sell them back to Septa in a few years, that agency is hopeless. Then go get yourself some nice Stadler or Bombardier cars that look like theyre from the same century as your airport.

Um, no SEPTA EMU has a bell, and SEPTA has about 100 stations, mostly with low platforms, many with express trains going by at 70 to 100 miles per hour. SEPTA trains also have steps - which can be very useful.
