Windsor Castle and town, England

Last Saturday I hopped to Windsor for a quick walk and some photos. It was the first time I was there and I was amazed by the beauty and charm of this town.

1.
On the way. One famous character comes from Staines (could you guess whom?)

2.
Windsor & Eton Riverside train station. Trains depart for London Waterloo every 30 minutes and takes about 40-45 minutes to the destination. In fact it's just on the Western outskirts of London

3.
Just outside the station

Heathrow airport is just a mile or two away so you see all those 747's landing just above the castle... what a bad idea to build such a castle near a large airport

Wow...very nice town & castle, reminds me of something, but I can't quite place it.
Excellent photography, John! I forgot, what type of camera are you using now?

Thanks SrbijaCG
I use Canon 350D with two different lenses (18-55mm and 70-300mm). And hat town is truly gorgeous, like a little fairytale place with a castle

Great photos Jonas! I used to live about 15minutes walk from Windsor on the Eaton side. The pubs at night were great there, and on a summers day as well.

It really is a beautiful town and so close to London, I always just saw it as a metropolitan suburb of London. There is another station to the riverside. Windsor Central from memory, which has a very grand entrance. These days though, it's only a short spur to Slough, but if you time the trains right, you can get to Windsor from London much quicker, just with one change. Or at least you could when I lived there.

I was hoping to see a photo you took of the bridge between Windsor and Eaton. I always found this one of the nicest bridges anywhere.

The Thames up there is also so beautiful. More of a blue colour because it doesn't have the silt from being tidal, and there is a great little lock you can sit by and watch all the boats go past.

Windsor was one of my first sights of the UK, and the first area/region I lived in, and it defined what the UK was all about for me in a way. Your photos just bring back amazing memories for me, so thanks enormously for the post.

Thanks for your reply, always nice to hear your opinion, especially since you've actually been living there. I didn't take photos of many interesting places because I just didn't have too much time. I got there in the afternoon (about 4p.m.) and left back for London before 8. Anyway I'll most probably get there on some other weekend to explore the place a little more.
