^^Awesome that this tower was approved. I wish it was taller though!

Also, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, the building is 34 floors, and 357' 2" at the roof.

This is according the the plans posted on the Cped site: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/www/...s1p-082986.pdf

Could a mod please change the thread title?

Checked out the link. Apparently the height has been modified now to 457'2" or 100' taller than originally planned.

Go read it again...the first floor is 100'-0". The building is only 357'-2". This is pretty common in construction documents so that the underground floors don't have negative numbers.

This should be breaking ground fairly soon, financing is secured. It has been reduced to 27 stories though(I believe it is 27, 28 to the roof...as it was 33/34 before), so it really isn't all that significant of a tower...I would guess about 280-300 feet. Still will be a very nice addition to the currently dead north end of Nicollet Mall. Design remains the same, just a bit shorter.

The new rendering, showing the slightly stubbier tower. This confirms it will be 27 stories...28 to the roof. Calculating that from the old drawings, it looks like it will be about 295 feet.

The rendering in the article is all kinds of skewed...thanks to Fotoapparatic at urbanmsp, here is a corrected rendering of the 27(8) story version:

Totally agree, but if this thing sells out in a hurry, and is a commercial success, that could pave the way for more development, including bigger stuff. There is a LOT of space that can be developed in the area.

Really hoping for something over 500' in the next 5 years

I returned from a trip to South Dakota earlier this month, visiting a friend. I flew into Minneapolis and we spent a few days there at both the beginning and end of my trip. I gotta say, Minneapolis' downtown is remarkably urban and very active. We went out in the warehouse district I believe it was, along Hennepin Avenue, and I was floored by the amount of people and the lively atmosphere. I definitely think that Minneapolis could sustain a lot more residential development, and as you said kenratboy, I hope this project is only the first of several proposals yet to come.

Sidenote: Target Field is stunning.

Update on this...signs posted at the site...parking lot closes after tomorrow, the 11th. It should be under way very soon.

Also, as posted earlier in this thread...this was taken down from 32 stories(33 to the roof) to 26 stories(27 to the roof), so the title should be changed.

Thanks

Another Staten Islander who loves Minneapolis here. Great skyline, lots of activity, and the outlying area is + as well.

I wish they didn't chop off 7 floors. I realize that it's better to be safe than sorry....however.

They have been working on this for a couple weeks, but the official groundbreaking is tomorrow. A new rendering is below...as you can see, they have "dumbed" down the top a bit...I am just happy to see this lot developed.

I doubt it will be very long before Minneapolis gets another 500ft or taller tower. It is such a dynamic and great city. I could see myself being happy living there.

This needs to be moved to under construction. Crane is up today, and foundation work underway. Here is a pic courtesy of Nick at www.urbanmsp.com
Also, I believe we have confirmed the height is just 289 feet. http://en.phorio.com/nic_on_fifth,_m..._united_states
