I love how some people on this forum always come to defense of rednecks. They would never come to defense of liberal minded people or people who differ from them. They are intolerant fucktards who deserve no respect. I am very intolerant of intolerance and rednecks are very intolerant. They are usually quite dumb and or not open to anything new. They dont deserve being defended. Now of course, some people will come along and say, well you guys never bash inner city poor people which in a lot of respects are the same as rednecks. I dont think they deserve any respect either for the ways they act. Most inner city poor people are also intolerant and ignorant. Let the hate come forth...

Pretty sure I heard the "Bush is a terrorist" line before.

Just sayin...

But then again, I've never heard anyone call him a muslim or question his birth certificate. That was just weird.

And at least Bush got a few years in office to slip up before all the accusations started flying. All the accusations against Obama began well before he was even elected.

Nope. Just google imaged "Bush terrorist". Got an endless list of results.

I'm not saying the shop in Branson wasn't a full display of assholery. I'm just saying Bush had a lot of wild accusations thrown at him as well. Granted, I think he did a lot more to deserve it.

I think the cloudiness added a lot of "misery" effect. I wouldn't mind visiting to see what the hell this place is all about. Not that it looks great, but I've just never been there and am now curious about it.

Right, and I'm pretty sure you could find those shirts at places with the "liberal version" of a flag that is synonymous with racism, and glorification of slavery. Every white supremacist group in this country fetishizes the stars and bars, but you know, it means nothing, we should respect their "southern heritage"! Me being black, I bet I could waltz right in that store and recieve a good ol' Branson welcome from Cooter! Helllll, I might apply for a job there!

...now, i don't agree with president bashing (personally, i respect my country, its flag, and our president)... but i saw a pretty funny anti-obama bumper sticker today at a gas station of 90 in wisconsin:

One
Big
Ass
Mistake,
America.

made me think of this thread...

anyway, i don't think rednecks are particularly cool dudes. and i never said i think the confederate flag is awesome. my only point was, all this southern bashing is trite and is boring to me. i don't get the point of pointing out how 'backwards' you all think it is... save for the fucked up idiots who go around spouting off all that anti-semetic, racist bs, i bet that town is full of a lot of nice people. and why alienate a bunch of people because of their likes and dislikes? this country will always have a left, a right, and a center. for every gun store, wal-mart, and pro-american gift shop in rural america, there's a vegan restaurant, whole-foods, and gay-sex shop in urban america. every march 19th, when the streets of chicago fill with all those hipster war protesters, i remind myself of this, roll my eyes, and move on.

Well... it sounds as if you're suggesting that there is an equivalence in the opposing views and that they are simply just innocuous opposing views. In general, that is not the case. It goes far beyond simply "likes and dislikes". It's not specifically "southern bashing", as you suggest. It is not about bashing the South (this type of crap exists everywhere, though it is much more ubiquitous in many parts of the southern US). Instead, it is a negative reaction to ignorance, the assault on education and reason, the reverence for a symbol of institutionalized racism characterized by human slavery, brutal violence, and segregation, and mindless jingoism.

Trying to equate those who identify with, and openly advocate, a racist and bigoted political agenda with those who chose to patron a whole foods grocery store, eat vegan foods, or want to to get off in a "nontraditional" way is absolutely preposterous.

Did you notice the billboards on I-44 ? Everytime I drive to El Paso to visit family I get a kick out of the billboards. Christian themed, Branson, Fishing Stores, adult bookstores, and strip clubs litter southwest Missouri. Once you get to Oklahoma you get back to more typical boards.

I noticed that driving from St. Louis to Branson, there was tons and tons and tons of anti abortion billboards. I had never seen that before. Even here in Arkansas you dont see billboards like that. Of course, around where I live theres a few billboards that say things like, taking the land back for Jesus, and stuff like that. But southern MO looked like it was super obsessed with Jesus, more so than any other place in the south that Ive seen.
