Hey man, it's not moving slow; They're just backing up to get a running start!

The following is from the Post Gazette from today. It's immensely interesting how the site of Pittsburgh's newest, contemporary designed tower will site on such a historic site. Of course, in old, compact, dense Pittsburgh, almost any block downtown would have equally storied pasts. But the particular block at Market and 5th has roots that entwine the lives of Carnegie, Frick and (Joseph) Hornes.

"Well before PNC, according to Ms. Davis' research, there was Scottish industrialist Andrew Carnegie, who moved the headquarters of his first steel company to part of the site at 31 Fifth Ave. from 1873 to 1876; there was a young Henry Clay Frick, who before getting into the coke business clerked in the linen and lace department at Macrum & Carlisle at 17 Fifth Ave.; there was Christian Yeager, who in 1850 built his department store at 110 Market St., making Joseph Horne one of his first employees;"

agreed... it would be nice if one of these Pittsburghers would keep us updated now and then

btw, does anyone know how to get the structural height (360 ft) included in the title of this thread like every other thread in this forum?

I am leaving work today around a quarter after 4. This will leave me plenty of time to go home grab my camera, and then go downtown to get some updated photos before dark.

This actually makes me excited. I get to do something worthwhile today. My job surely isn't worthwhile............

This tower is cruising along at a great speed now! It's starting to finally become a force in the skyline from some parts of downtown.

You are right AaronClark. It is starting to get fixed in with that little section of cool buildings downtown. I just don't know how much of an impression it will have on the skyline from a distance.

That's pretty sweet!
Hey, that was a nice post PA pride!

You are right. I am thinking of it on the west view, and not the north. If you look at what it will do from the north side it is going to fill in a nice gap. Especially for the well deserving Pirate fans from PNC park.

Woah woah woah! I'm a pittsburgh fan first and foremost! i bleed black and gold for the pens pirates and steelers! although i will be coming to watch the phillies kill the bucs. it boggles my mind how they can just be so bad so consistently. i'll be attending with some of my friends who are phillies fans, its a fun rivalry. i'm flying in tonight and will look for both the skyblast and lights from 3 pnc.

Is anyone aware of a more detailed set of mock-up images of this building? I'd really like to create this in google earth. It would be a good way to visualize the completed project, as a lot of the skyline is already completed.
