WOW Outstanding! Part of me didn't think it was possible to cantilever a building like that, but .....outstanding!

This building has created the three dimensional city. It is more appealing than I expected.

I like that other tall building next to it. While it is kind of awkward in some ways, it's still a great example of treating the roof as a 5th facade, not just a utilitatian top.

That building next to the CCTV is the Mandarin Oriental Beijing. It will have hotel rooms that slide out of the side facing CCTV which will change the facade on that side of the building and make it looks squareish.

Anyways, this is a cool building. It should get more attention. I love the plaza beneath it but I would like to see more trees. Specially since they would improve the environment in a small area and there is a world class hotel right cross the street. The place already has planned a good # of trees but more wouldn't hurt(well, it would hurt wallets).

great project...too bad about the noxious superhighway bisecting that area of downtown.

In the last pic, what is that huge fence in back of the CCTV tower? That thing has got to be 8-10 stories high.

it isn't just you. when economies like china, eastern europe, and various others are in "catch up" periods, there are so many projects going up at once that they can get away with more daring designs.

unlike the united states and europe where there are much fewer projects, which are then subject to far, far more scrutiny. the u.s. suffers in particular because contemporary architecture hasn't really made it into the mainstream.

europe, on the other hand, seems to have stronger projects and a more widespread cultural emphasis on contemporary design and has better projects on average. but look at london, for example. even there where new landmark projects are often far edgier than any place in the u.s., design reviews and the approval process takes longer forcing more buildings into cost overruns and design compromises.

but when you have, on the other hand, the dubai marina with goodness knows how many 30+ story towers, approval is swift and designs range from ingenious and cutting-edge to really banal or garish. maybe this is a captain obvious statement, but that's my bit.

I've driven on that stretch and it offers some amazing views due to the fact that it's elevated.

It would have been nice to have seen more detail of the joining of the towers. I'm sure they were flexing and swaying relative to eachother. That must have been an interesting process, making the first connections.
