This is good news. Hopefully, like you said, the elements wont slow them down too much.

Well, the tower is not on a hill and it is only about half as high as One Rincon Hill, so the elements won't be as powerful here as it will be there. Still, just like One Rincon, this tower rises higher than anything in the area.

Yeah, a disadvantage of building a little far away from the highrise core.

But at least a building built far from the highrise core will make a bigger impact than one built inside a shell of skyscrapers.

Good point, a 340' hotel in Rincon Hill or Financial District might never be seen from the outside.

But then, you never know if continued development will seem to eat up the tower in a sea of highrises. One example I think, going back to Rincon Hill, is the two Metropolitan towers built in 2004. They were once the king of the hill and stuck out of the skyline. Now, they will at least be partially buried.

But RIGHT NEXT to Moscone West (the SF convention center)--which pretty much explains why it's being built, I think.

Of course, convention centers must and usually have some kind of hotel nearby. In this case The Intercontinental Hotel Tower.

Within a block, Moscone has:

1. The Marriot
2. The St. Regis
3. The "W"
4. The Intercontinental
5. The Argent

I think SF now has close to all hotels within its city ranks. The only one that we dont have, and that I personally would love to see come here, is Shangri-La. They should occupy part of the Transbay Tower or have a building of thier own

If Shangri-La comes, I hope whatever structure it occupies will be tall. This seems to be a trend for the hotel; there is a 61 storey 197 m tower U/C in Vancouver and I think the U/C 319 m, 89 storey Waterview Tower will have the hotel occupy some part of it.

Yeah, every time I drive past the future site of the Waterview Tower here in Chicago I say to myself, why cant we have this in SF? But if Vancouver can have the Living Shangri-La Hotel at 646' (197m), we can certainly have a 700'+ (213m+) Shangri-La here.

Updated construction pictures, Webcor, come on, update!

They got past the funky levels, it seems, taken yesterday.

great shots. thanks for taking time for these as well as the others in the other threads.

it's clearly evident that the intercontinental will have a dramatic effect on the skyline because of its location. as j church noted, it will pull the skyline further west as the hilton does north of market. let's hope it will rise fairly quickly now that they've passed the base.

Great news. Anyone know how many stories the core rises to now?

I really like this tower. Can't wait to see it when it's finished.
