Whoever got the idea to use this material was a genius. The examples on this page are gorgeous!

nope, it's clad with Cor-ten.

Steely, I believe in you, but shouldn´t CorTen always look like rusted steel, including that reddish/brownish color?

well, I suppose this thread would be dead long ago if we restricted it to skyscrapers with CORTEN.

Penthaz, Switzerland
Cinémathèque Suisse
EM2N
April 02, 2014

Paradoxically, the charm of the existing Cinémathèque lay in its simple and utilitarian appear- ance. The home of the national collective film memory presented itself as an unpretentious accumulation of sheds, concerned more about the contents than the packaging. The extension project accepts this starting point and makes it its own. The structure of the existing buildings arranged in a linear fashion is translated by new additions and remodeling into a composite, ambivalent form of parallel buildings of different lengths. Just the end situation is marked by angled cuts; the building in this way acquires a face. In the interior the principle of buildings positioned alongside each other is also evident. The three main circulation systems lying above each other penetrate the parallel cross-walls vertically, allowing the sequential arrangement of the beams to be experienced. The suspended conference rooms in the two-story entrance and exhibition hall are in turn connected with each other by windows. In the views across and through the building this produces a perspective depth as well as suggesting associations to film effects such as montage and cutting.

Cappella di preghiera Noivoiloro
ifdesign Franco Tagliabue Volontè - Ida Origgi
April 02, 2014

some weird Belo Horizonte highrises, all by the same architectural company, which explains all of them having a weird mix of corten with dubious tile patterns...

Kolding, Denmark
Nicolai Cultural Center
Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter
April 10, 2014

Nicolai Cultural Centre is a conversion of 5 previous school buildings enclosing a common schoolyard. Each building represents a period in Danish school history, from the first school dating 1856 to the last built that opened in 1909. None of the buildings were no longer in use as school buildings, two were listed as cultural heritage. The project is a result of a competition in 2002, which programmed a conversion of the complex to be the future Cultural Centre of Kolding. The competition were hosted by The City of Kolding, supported by the foundation RealDania, who were especially interested in new ways of conversion and use of listed cultural buildings.

hufft projects builds a heavy metal house in missouri

the ‘heavy metal house’ is situated in the middle of an 8 acres of densely vegetated land. american design collective hufft projects built the home for the owner of a steel manufacturing plant, therefore the name suits the megaton steel home that exhibits not only the metals in their various lusters and applications but also the owner’s sense for innovation and creativity in his profession.
