Great pics guys!!!! This is my favorite project right now and I cannot wait to see this place open. With that said I feel that SA should go into a more art deco kind of style with new skyscrapers such as the wells fargo building in Minneapolis

So instead of getting the boards to pass modern Glass and steel ones we could work with them towards maybe something like this one day. But the wells fargo center would look super amazing in SA ( lets move it! )

^ I would go nuts over a tower like that in San Antonio. I've always loved the Wells Fargo Center in Minneapolis. Easily my favorite building in that city.

Yeah cesar pelli has done almost all of my fav buildings. I think that deco is the way to go in SA to keep the conservative building people happy

I think that is the way San Antonio will go. The new hotel at river center (rendering) is one example.

^^^ I have not seen that rendering yet but if this is the ways we are going then by all means, that would give SA yet another thing that will make our future skyline unique. ( spare the euphemisms about what makes our skyline unique is the current size!!!! hahahaha

They already have 6 floors completed. Total will be 17 floors.
The Vistana is also in a good location...there is a nice park across the street...and its right near hospitals and the interstates are real close too. Easy to get in and out.

San Antonio has been getting a steady stream of highrises since the mid 90s. It's just that many of them aren't really that tall, so they don't make much impact on the skyline and go unnoticed. There's been at least 8 of them since 1997 in the core of downtown (rough number, I'm using my fingers

). But most of these are in the 10 to 15 story range. I actually think that speaks well about San Antonio's downtown area density-wise. With that many new buildings going up, and they aren't even noticed, because they get lost in the crowd. Also in the past many of those other buildings were being built when the forum didn't even exist yet. Ha. And it wasn't really until about 3 or 4 years ago that there were more San Antonio forumers starting to show up on the forum, so it sort of got misrepresented back then, though I did try my best at filling the role.

Well i drove through there last year, and the downtown was weak. I love San Antonio. but the downtown was trash before... People claimed that the bureaucracy was holding San Antonio back not wanting tall buildings downtown.

Regardless of how it looks, a list of what is actually there will tell you San Antonio is not that bad when compared to other cities.

As you can see in MetalMike's post form 3/18, the building is now rising in a shallow "U" shape. This should help to quicken the pace of construction and give us a faster rise in floor numbers, although those monster floors (full block long) are still gonna take awhile.

Buildings much over 14-18 stories are overrated. Quality urban design is more important regardless of height.

Not a San Antonio resident, just had to be said. I know, I know, "Skyscraperpage" and all that. Caring about height before anything else is just so anti-urban (real urbanism, anyway). Too many big tall buildings out there that are disastrous in their urban settings.
