The present site looks like a mish-mash of poorly placed and designed residential/institutional buildings and green space. This is great news, and impressive considering this is the West-Island.
I'll miss the Manoir though. My biggest problem with the development is that it doesn't provide for retail or office space fronting St. John's road, one of the most important main street in the West Island, and that's a bit of a wasted opportunity. Second, I hope some of the profits from this could be redirected towards better transit in the West Island, but I doubt it. The highways are insanely congested getting in and out of the West Island at rush hour and the last thing that should be approved is more purely residential developments in the West Island when the infrastructure can't handle what there already is and no one seems willing to invest in light rail or any other technology that might allow for a viable alternative. Frequent express buses have helped, but they use the same highways and are just as delayed by the impossible gridlock.
Bell Centre area to become entertainment hub

Disgruntled Habs fans, like the ones streaming out of the Bell Centre before the end of Thursday night’s game, will soon have a choice of venues to lament their post-match losses.
At least three high-end restaurants, a giant sports bar modeled after Toronto’s Real Sports, along with a mixed bar and club are to be built over the next few years on the now empty parking lots around the Bell Centre. Late night groceries, anyone? A small supermarket is also planned at one of the four condo towers announced for the area.
While developers have been more than eager to talk about the thousands of condo units they want to build within blocks of the Bell Centre, what’s less well known is all the new retailing expected for the area. The Roccabella condo project has already leased the majority of retailing space and is now looking to sign an upscale restaurant, spokesperson Karen Wisdom told me recently.
“This whole area will become an entertainment hub by 2016,” said real estate broker Raymond Singh, who’s sold about two dozen condos in condo projects around the Bell Centre.
Meanwhile, Broccolini Construction is marketing 140,000 square feet in its Avenue condo building as office space. But with few Montreal office tenants prepared to pay the cost of rents charged at new construction projects, that space could end up as retailing as well.
so the Manoir stays? I remember when it opened. Got drunk there hundreds of times in the bad old Waste Island days.

What they should have built was a quality building like 1250 Greene in Westmount. The grey stone would better match the buildings opposite and have a refined, classy look to it. 1250 Greene is my favourite small to mid-sized project right now. It really takes Greene Avenue to another level.
Regardless of the end result on Flex, which we can all agree will be mediocre, it is is a huge improvement. The parking lot that was there before was quite possibly the ugliest in Montreal. There were larger parking lots that were much less ugly.
Here's a mystery project (that's clearly in Montreal) by Karl Fischer. Anyone know where it is? It looks to be a senior's residence, but I am not sure.
