Portion of funding will fix 'dangerous' section of trail running through parking lot

Does anyone remember the plan that was announced around 2009-2010 ish for this very section of trail? I remember there was a plan for a bridge/pedway or something at the end of the parking lot going over the riverbank. I wonder if this is still the plan? Also, it would be great to see that outbuilding in use. I would love to see more things along that boardwalk. For far too long it has been ignored commercially, yet has so much potential. Woody's has a little patio in the back on the riverfront trail and its great! I stopped in after a bike ride for a beer and ribs, just left the bike right there, I loved it!

I think that was superseded by "phase three" of the Downing Street redevelopment, which includes an extension into the Riverfront Park including a viewing platform. This will not happen for a number of years........

The Outbuilding I remember the 1st summer they used it as Information but then nothing. I don't think there will be plans to do anything with it.

They plan to run water lines and electricity to this "outlook building" with the hopes of leasing it out to a private entrepreneur. A suggestion has been made that this building could become a nifty ice cream stand.

Beautiful decor, energetic servers, great chicken wing appetizers, basic american italian restaurant fare.

The August 23 PAC agenda hasn't been published yet, but it includes a variance request at 100 Cameron (the 5-storey building where McKenzie College is located) "to allow an addition to a building to match the height of the existing building and to be built 4.9 metres from the property line instead of the required 6 metres". Sounds like a significant expansion.

I'm wondering if they are going to double the size of the building. A buddy of mine had gone there, and it seemed they had plans then to try to expand.

Mackenzie College? Is this the building that once housed the HQ for Marine Atlantic?

I believe so, yes.

It'll be interesting to see the renderings when the PAC agenda is released.

Hopefully if the expansion is significant they consider an underground parking solution. Parking is already underserved there so eating more of that space will make that problem much worse. I know Mckenzie college already has to rent space in lots on surrounding streets. It's also only a block from the downtown center, so there's opportunity there.

From the August 23 PAC agenda (http://www.moncton.ca/Assets/Governm...C+Agenda.pdf):

100 Cameron St

Interesting that the new building would be fit six storeys in the same height as the existing five-storey building...

Also, does the existing building not consist solely of businesses? The floor plan shows apartments throughout both buildings.

It also appears they are building a residential building and likely converting the existing building to residential as well. (look at the floor plan in the document)

I just noticed that too and added it to my post. Also looks like part of the first floor of the existing building will be converted to indoor parking stalls.

I'm counting 68 units: 8x4 in tower A, and 6x6 in tower B. That's pretty significant.

Edit: On second look, it appears those 'parking stalls' are storage. Overall, it appears to be lacking parking spots.

Must be relocating elsewhere. I think McKenzie College is successful.

Overall, the removal of some office space from the DT might be a good thing. This will boost occupancy elsewhere, and perhaps spur new construction.

I count about 38 surface parking spaces. Of course, not everyone who lives downtown needs a car..........

Indeed, and since McKenzie is primarily a college of art and design, this would sort of fit in with the mandate of MHS being maintained at least partly as an arts centre.
