They look to be pretty interesting spaces, especially given the narrow scale which should feel pretty intimate. Definitely new and different for Vancouver's planning department who seem to avoid narrow urban design in favour of more open massing. Definitely a step in the right direction IMO.

Across False Creek in Olympic Village they went narrow and I think that it worked very well. Glad to see more of it.

I see that the refurbished Grange Park in Toronto has offically reopened. Hope we'll see some pics soon - I'm especially interested to see how the Henry Moore looks in the new setting.

Parc Frédéric-Back is taking form in the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc Extension borough of Montreal. Once completed in 2023, it will be Montreal's second largest park.

It is located right beside the Cirque du Soleil headquarters and studios.

Parc Frédéric-Back: A unique metamorphosis

Referred to, still, as the old Miron quarry or the St-Michel dump, this gigantic landfill site was once a source of shame to citizens.

Today, the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex (SMEC) – a 192-hectage territory located in the northernmost section of this neighbourhood – is well on its way to becoming one of Montréal’s foremost green spaces, spanning an area almost the size of Parc du Mount-Royal. It is also the most ambitious environmental rehabilitation project ever undertaken by the city.


Two new sectors in the park, spanning a total of 17.7 hectares, will open to the public in 2017. Other sections of the park will be redeveloped, including the spaces surrounding the new indoor soccer stadium.

This metropolitan park dedicated to the environment, culture and sports will be completed in 2023.

^Nice. It reminds me of Downsview Park in Toronto.

I like the trend toward these massive parks in former industrial lands of the inner suburbs. For one, they usually give the landscape architects room to run with their imaginations. Second, they seem to create a new park experience that hasn't really existed before. These places seem both intensely manicured but wild; intimate enough to create little experiences, yet enormous enough to get thoroughly lost in. They're like the new theme parks.

Montreal has expanded its free WiFi network around the city

Described as “one of the widest free public urban Wi-Fi networks in the world.”

The City of Montreal announced yesterday that it would be expanding its free WiFi zones in the city.

Though formerly the city had offered free WiFi in Old Port and in Palais des congres, they have decided to broaden the network to include nearly all of downtown Montreal.

MTLWiFi now includes 825 access stations around the city, meaning you can get free public WiFi nearly everywhere in Old Montreal and downtown.

More specifically, the downtown public WiFi ranges from Rene-Levesque up to Sherbrooke, and between Rue Fort in the West and Avenue Papineau in the East, not to mention Old Montreal.

This means that whether you’re walking through the Gay Village or taking a selfie in front of the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, you can rest easy knowing you can have access to the internet whenever you need it!

I hate the powder blue plant boxes. What were they thinking ?

McTavish is nice, but I still think that the city needs to step it up in terms of innovative design. We can do better.

Here is a big project for a small town in an often forgotten corner of Southwest Ontario. The St. Thomas Elevated Park converts an abandoned railway viaduct into a linear park, similar to New York's High Line. The difference is that this viaduct is really tall and pretty wide, considering that it was once a double track railroad.

It looks like they've begun some construction, although maybe London-area forumers can confirm.

It's not possible on SSC so I'm assuming it's not possible here as well.
I suggest you upload and bring the pictures back from Flickr, or Shutterfly. The pics will shrink to a moderate size for this forum. Photobucket used to work, but it's gone out of whack all of a sudden.

Very nice proposal by the way! It's like Canada's own High-Line Park with better scenery.
